The Senior uniform looks like too much potential for a uniform malfunction like they forgot this was for young woman athletes. I can see this being an issue for younger ones as well but not as much.

The Essex uniforms are pretty. I do feel like they could use a little bling. But I feel like a boy would be hesitant to cheer there simply because of the color of their uniforms. That is why I prefer more gender neutral colors. Maybe it is just me, though.

So we got the Rebel drawing mock up of our uniforms last night. Today the rep will the at the gym to size and order. My question is it appropriate to speak to those in charge of designing the uniform if you feel (and I’m not the only parent) that it’s more grown up and more revealing than you want your young daughter wearing much less having to pay a fortune for? I don’t want to step on toes and be “that parent” by any means and I’m generally really easy going about stuff. Some of the details of it are just a lot.

Ask yourself what you're hoping to accomplish with this interaction. Ex: Do you want them to order something else (may not be realistic?) Order a bodyliner to go under something to make it a full top? What is an ideal solution in your eyes? (I have no clue what this uniform looks like, but whenever I find myself wanting to approach say, a colleague at work about something I don't agree with, that's my first question.)

That’s a good question. I think that’s why I hesitate saying something. It’s a very open shoulder connected to the arms in what looks like fishnet mesh and along with some other small strappy details it gives it a stripperish look. In a perfect world I’m ok with the strappy stuff but close the sleeve up some and use something other than fishnet Lol. It’s a full top and the bodice is cute.

Last year we got new uni's and there were 2 potential options. The parents overwhelmingly voted for the more conservative look. While the kids liked the strappy , meshy one. I'll be honest here,. I thought it was trashy looking. It might have even been a dealbreaker for CP's father.

Maybe the person designing the uniform has only spoken with the kids, maybe they don't realize that adults would consider it too revealing. I have found that a lot of times, people that are deep in the industry lose sight of how things appear from outside the cheer bubble.

Of course, the way you approach this conversation can make all the difference in the world in terms of how it is received. Let us know how it goes.

Most of the time, the design decisions are driven by the coach and/or gym owner. The designer is likely going off of what they said they wanted. I would speak to the coach/gym owner if you have an issue with the uniform.

This gym really likes pink! Hope the uniform color is not a deal breaker for any boys interested in cheer. They could easily design a boys uniform in white with the Essex logo and pick up the teal blue stripe detail along the shoulder, chest, and legs.

Bear in mind that there are other gyms around there that could cater to boys better. I am lead to belive as I no longer cheer that there are only a small amount and believe or not tend to be older and are snatched up by other programs

    I agree.

I was working off the assumption that the coaches/gym owners were the designers. I figured that they went through a computer program or catalogue and "built" a uniform from standard parts. It didn't occur to me that you would give a concept and have a uniform company come back with design. I guess I learn something new every day.

There are very few uniforms that make me go "oh yikes" out loud... this was one of them.
