The Hendrink Hudson High School cheerleaders started spreading cheer last week when they reached out to their entire community to volunteer. They were stationed at grocery stores, the Hendrick Hudson Free Library, local delis, the school district office, the Veterans Administration hospital in Montrose and George’s Island. Check out more on their efforts to make their community great!
Their efforts are not stopping there – In an effort to recognize and celebrate National School Spirit Day on 9/7, their cheerleaders are encouraging their entire high school student body and staff to “Wear Blue to School and White at Night” to show unity in the community and exemplify their Sailor Spirit both in school and at the opening football game.
September 7th will also kick off their t-shirts sale: “Hendrick Hudson CHEER for a Cure!” All proceeds will be donated to breast cancer research. Last year, they performed a BEAT Cancer cheer at various events throughout the community. While passing around a megaphone to collect donations for Support Connection – a local charity that helps families battling breast and ovarian cancers. They donated over $700 to the cause. Additionally, they worked with their athletic trainer on their “Hen Hud Athletes Support Breast Cancer Awareness” campaign that raised over $2,500 for Susan G. Komen. It was celebrated with a pink balloon release at the homecoming game half time. Hopefully this year’s events will be bigger and better!
The weekend of September 7th is full of other community service events for them including their Town of Cortlandt Family Fun Day and the Toughman Triathlon. They perform and volunteer at both events!
Their coach Nichole tells us “We are very proud of our athletes and their commitment to community service. Our ”CHEERful Day of Giving” was well received throughout our community. We couldn’t agree more: America Needs Cheerleaders!”
