In Sweden our age grids are Youth: 11-13 (you're not allowed to compete with score sheets under the age of 11, no exceptions), Junior: 12-16, Senior: 15+. So if you're 12 or 13 you can be either youth or junior, and 15 or 16 either a junior or senior. However you are allowed to have under age athletes on an older team in level 1 through 5 (level 6 national champions becomes the national team so they have different rules), as long as 80% of the athletes are the correct age for the division. It keeps the divisions fairly strict on age, but gives smaller "gyms" the option of fielding a senior/junior team with a few younger athletes. You're also allowed up to 2 seniors/juniors on a younger team if your "gym" doesn't have a team in their age range.

I wish they’d age the youth back to 10. I prefer elementary separated from middle school age. No middle school kid wants to be with a bunch of little kids.

My CP has been praying that the age didn’t go up again this year. She patiently waited but had heard it would be 14 for next season. She is over the moon!

Watch out, you are going to rile up a whole bunch of junior parents of 8 year olds whose kids are very mature and prefer being with the older ones...

I’d rather a younger kid on a junior team than an older kid on a youth. By the time you’re in middle school, you want to be with same aged or older kids (for the most part). Being the oldest kids on a youth age team is a bummer for those kids. Middle school is such a weird age, anyway. They don’t want to think of themselves as little kids anymore.

My CP is a 5th grader on a youth team. The 6th graders are pretty "cliquey" and do not wanna mix with non 6th graders. So you're right about that.

However they are great bases & backspots. Youth teams with 10 max age would struggle with stunts imo. It's already pretty hard as it is and we have some small 8 year old flyers. My 10 year old CP bases the tiniest flyer luckily.

On CP's junior team this year and last, it seems the most conflict has been between the 7th-9th graders. CP is in 5th grade and luckily is not involved in any of the nonsense going on. I can only hope that continues!

In my own experiences just with HS kids v. MS and younger students:

Little kids on Junior teams are probably more likely to be exposed to mature content than the youngest kids on Senior teams.

I found that HS kids have much more of a filter around the younger kids.

Middle school kids have not learned that yet.

Ex: I did not invite middle schoolers to work the K-5 youth clinic when I coached. High school cheerleaders only.

The way I read this it would appear J6 (formerly j5) and J6 co-ed would be Worlds divisions. Thoughts?

How many more divisions are there going to be? Now with all R5s teams turning into 5 world teams? Plus Jrs?

Actually I take that back...it does not look like they will be at worlds. Sorry about that. It looks as if number will be same.

Edited to say the first draft grid is on USASF's website, I read too quickly before I rushed out...

11 is still the bottom age for Sr non worlds divisions.

"NOTE: ** The Senior Division (Elite Club Divisions only) bottom age will be 13 years old for the 2020-2021 season."

They will call 5R level 5, and 5 will become 6. 6 will become 7.

Also they are adding back a pure level 2 for prep (2.2). Good. It was weird to see prep teams have to do level 3 stunting if they wanted to do level 2 tumbling (3.2).

I don't think it will have to be a worlds division just because it will be called 5. Worlds will now be level 6 & 7.
