people saying that tattoos and piercings will affect your career choice make me extremely glad that I'm going into the music industry where those are more than accepted.

i don't see why a tattoo should cause a deduction. personally, i think that if it's that big, and you have to get a huge bandaid / gauze / tape to cover it up, it'll be more distracting.

A little off topic but I've seen judges write comments about a girl's hair (not the whole team, just a few) on a scoresheet! On a YOUTH team..
