While I am packing for a snowy weekend in Hartford I thought it might be interesting to hear some stories of how weather has impacted cheer competition weekends over the years.

We are in our 6th season of competitive cheer in New England and have never had a competition cancelled.

Spirit Fest is adamant that they won't cancel, even though this looks to be the worst storm the area has seen in years.

I don't have to be there until 5 or so on Saturday, but I'm panicking since the snow seems to be pushing later and later on Saturday.

What's winter weather? It was 70 degrees yesterday.

    Ok I'm done bragging.

I will never, ever forget the ordeal getting to and from Jamfest Super Nationals three seasons ago. Getting there wasn't as bad, but going home. Eek!! Our normally 4-hour drive took 7+ hours, and we were the fortunate ones because with CP being on Mini 1, we were out of there by 10:30. Others weren't so lucky. Many families got stranded in Indy for an extra night or two because the highway was shut down. A few families that left later in the day Sunday and attempted to drive home ended up getting a hotel room somewhere along the way because the roads were just too bad. That was the trip where I witnessed an Indiana state trooper's car flip off the road in front of us coming off of an on-ramp.

When I was in 8th grade about 5 years ago, my middle school team was going to states and it was only a 45 minute drive, but my school cancelled our bus and we missed the entire competiton :( so heartbreaking.

I was surprised that teams pulled out of a competition in Ohio this past weekend because they feared bad weather, which never came.

Oh, that was the year of the ice storm, wasn't it? The worst winter Indy had seen in the 10 years we have lived here.

4 years ago we had a bad snow storm on Long island and all the high school teams that were scheduled to fly out for UCA nationals were stuck, they had to rent buses to drive them to orlando. But they made it.

Well it's not supposed to be bad until tomorrow evening. My gym is advising people to head out as early on Friday as possible (2 hour drive for us). I'm hoping to get on the road on the other side of the storm, Saturday afternoon since I don't have to be there until 4 or 5.

We're coming to Hartford tonight straight from the gym so we avoid having to travel in the snow tomorrow. Accu-weather is currently calling for it to start in Hartford at 7AM tomorrow and go until about 6AM on Saturday. All we've heard so far is that they MAY push the start time back. Does anyone have any snow dogs and a sled I can borrow to get my kid to the venue??? This is nuts!

WSF in Charlotte about three years ago had a three hour delay because we'd gotten snow (in the south... Run for your LIVES!!!!!!!) the night before.... In February. We ended up missing the Charlotte Heart Ball that night because we wanted to watch our kids ;which we could've done before the delay and still made it) but it was all good. A few teams dropped but not many as I recall. By the time it started it was 50 degrees and sunshine.

That would be the year, when I65 ended up getting shut down. We made it through just in time, but we had practices cancelled for a couple days after because the entire staff was stuck in Indy.
