Happy Sunday everybody! Just a quick post, out of curiosity, I was wondering how end of season practices vs. tryouts are spanned out at your gyms? Obviously Worlds athletes continue until after Worlds, but for the other athletes/everyone, when do you have your last practice. And when does your gym host tryouts in comparison? I know from being a cheer parent for quite a while now, some athletes need a bit of recuperation time, especially as they progress and get older. Cheers!

Edit: Clarification about recuperation time...I meant giving the athlete's a chance to not go full-out, and have an opportunity to recoup a little from any bad injuries. It didn't really come out the way I meant above, still doesn't...time for me to cut back on the coffee I think! :D

Down time, what's that? Last two gyms typically hold evaluations about 3 weeks after worlds Allows time for the coaches to do a vacation, end of year banquet and time to allow prospective athletes to try some classes. Down time for recuperation is those days your kid doesn't have to be at the gym. If they are tired or hurt you don't force extra classes on them.

No real break to speak of. About 2 weeks between last comp and new season. Placements are done in between in only 2 hours. Prior gym had a month off, sort of. One week off, two weeks of tryouts, one week off, new season.

Our program's last comp was several weeks ago. After that there were no mandatory practices and everything was optional. If you wanted to continue your regular schedule or even come in to extra classes you could if you didn't want to no big deal.

Worlds... then US Finals...then clinics until tryouts. Typically have 2 weeks off the end of June/first week in July.

We still had regular team practices the last couple weeks. Today was a gym practice where all the teams not going to summit or worlds practiced together. I didn't care for it much bc I thought there weren't enough coaches and to many kids. But we only have 2 more before tryouts. First week of May is clinics then tryouts are on the 9th. So basically our "break" was Easter weekend then the following weekend we didn't have practice bc we had our banquet.

I'm not sure what that word means. There are times at which I've contemplated going "school coaching only" because the all star schedule is a bit much. At least I can guarantee a break with school cheer (there are 3 weeks between end of school and start of summer practices and a week after camp before we start to really get ready for football.)

We had our last program competition yesterday. The teams not going to summit will have a mini break. Everyone will have about a week off after summit until tryouts. We also take approximately 3 weeks off in the summer.

Once our last comp is over, practices aren't mandatory but you pay tuition for the whole month (so might as well come). For our junior and mini teams that didn't go to US finals, they've had March and April where their practices are relaxed and working skills for tryouts. For people with injuries this is healing time! For the senior teams we had our last comp this weekend so the rest of April will just be working skills, stunting around, etc. The first two weeks of May are a special class schedule to get ready for tryouts, no team practices so again if you're hurt or need some time off that's the time but if you want to you could be in the gym as much as you want. Then we have tryouts and team practices start back up! So for senior teams we'll have about a month of relaxed practices/healing time and mini/junior have had a while.

My daughter is done this year but usually Worlds/summit /banquet one weekend free, tryouts and June practice. Not really any big break.

CP has a 7 week break between her last competition and tryouts. During this time, the gym has twice-weekly, non-mandatory practices by level. The only teams that are still practicing are those going to Summit. The Summit teams will have a two-week break before try-outs.

CP's team isn't going to Summit, so she has just been going to her private lessons and tumbling class and then dropping into the practices when she wants to. Okay, honest moment: CP is always up for going to the gym, so she goes to the practices when I feel like driving her... It is my break, too. CP is in year-round school so it is nice for us to have the whole month of April off from school and cheer. I have to admit, I think our whole family would be burned out by now if she was going to the Summit.

We had our last competition yesterday, and tryout clinics start tomorrow. Tryouts are Saturday and the banquet is on Sunday. The "colors" and their practice time for May will be posted on Sunday after the banquet. There are no team (color) practices the week following placement, only tumbling. Color practices start the week after. They will practice with their colors until the end of May, and teams will be announced at the end of May.

Colors are levels, and the athletes are moved around until there is a perfect fit for the athlete.
