BC was actually the province I was thinking of when I wrote that! Google maps says it's over 22 hours between two towns close to opposite ends.

When I was a junior aged athlete, we did a comp in Minnesota. And took a train there and back. 28 hours one way y'all. Our coach thought it'd be "fun." We didn't even make finals.

YOU WENT FROM SYRACUSE TO MINNEAPOLIS?! ON A TRAIN?! (I'm assuming nowhere else in Minnesota hosts competitions.) GOOD LORD.

Yuppp. It was UPA in like uhhhh 2005? And this was in a time before cell phones and laptops and things to entertain small children. You basically had to pray to God your seat buddy had a portable DVD player with more than 5 DVDs. It was honestly awful.

I was just about to post that you guys need trains... apparently you guys need some highspeed trains though!
All those distances/times you guys wrote about - over here in Germany I'd take the (highspeed) train. It's faster than by car, but much more comfortable, and definitely a lot cheaper than flying.

Was that with New Gen?

Damn that is a haul but much more comfy on a train than a bus or car, at least according to cp, since you can get up and stretch.

We don't really have many. There are trains up and down the east coast, but they're not taken all that often. I think they're quite expensive. I looked at it once to NYC, but it ended up just being easier/cheaper to drive. I know @gofriars610 has taken them.

GoFriars610 checking in--yes, I have taken trains from DC to South Bend, IN and DC to Providence. Both times were, weirdly enough, to cheer on the Friars. (and cheaper than taking planes. DC to South Bend was like 160 round trip and DC to Providence was on a one-week notice because the NCAA decided to give PC a gift and place them in the Providence regional for hockey.)

EDIT: it should be legal to murder someone on a train who is using their phone after 1AM.

YES!! So weird to me that all countries don't have that.

Good memory! It was New Gen. Yes, trains are a lot better than buses for long distance. We got a lot of leg room and we did get opportunities to walk around but since our coach was a "Walking around nazi" we were supposed to remain in our seats unless we needed to go to the bathroom. She did this on buses too. We took a bus to every travel competition and she would not let us get off the bus when we stopped. Every two hours. So she could smoke. Even if we had to pee. Do you want to know how many times we watched finding nemo on the way to and from Battle at the Capitol? FOUR TIMES. BECAUSE WE RAN OUT OF MOVIES BECAUSE OF HER SMOKE BREAKS. I feel bad talking ill of the dead, I really do, but it was really terrible. Now every travel experience I have is fantastic because I once knew what "suffer traveling" was.

The fact that CNY lets people make their own travel arrangements is a 100% blessing.

Did for 2 years. 2-1/2 hrs each way 2 times a week.

I am going to attempt it next season but if I do dance aswell will have to do it twice a week I just can not afford the petrol as it is £19 a trip I normally pay £35 a week for petrol so adding that I am going to have to choose

I feel like they would need to build a whole new set of train tracks for that and the US is so big and spread out that it would be difficult. You can definitely find cheap train tickets, but a lot of the ones I have seen aren't much cheaper than flying.

Was not always that way for CNY.

It's actually interesting to see how americans consider an 8 hour drive a drivable distance.

If we had a company like Ryan Air like we did when we lived in Europe; I wouldn't drive half as much as I do. We also don't have as good public transportation either; ie. we took trains and planes if it wasn't within 3-4 hours.

I don't have a problem with Worlds being "Stay to Play"... Its an "end all, be all" competition and I feel its acceptable (I wouldn't mind it leaving Disney property though). Its all things comps throughout the season. As prestigious as NCA, Cheersport, WSF, Jamfest Indy, etc are... It does make it financially tough. Maybe I will change my tune after NCA This year... Our gym is attending NCA Dallas for the first time ever ;-)
