This is something I've been thinking about

I've watches gymnastics meets where gymnasts have requested that the apparatus be checked before they competed

I've seen athletes question balls. I've seen athletes question the time on clocks. I've she's basketball players point out wet spots on the floor and the game is stopped to mop it....Etc

My concern is, what does it say if these children got on the mat and noticed the wetness and didn't feel as though they could speak up. Felt as though they couldn't say "hey, it's wet. I probably shouldn't be throwing my double full on this or holding Suzy's wet shoe 6+ feet in air". Those girls in the SE video are clearly sliding and wiping their feet and I'm sorry but it's simply baffling that they felt they had to "make do", that they had accept a wet mat....because the all of the people running this event didn't feel the need to be accountable, to monitor conditions, or simply look at the the wet border and infer that that could indicate a larger problem.

I have no doubt that those kids felt they "had" to perform. That they themselves could not stop the routine due to the conditions because....I mean what established protocol is there that they are aware of? Stopping a routine for anything short of a injury is the end of the world as far as they're probably concerned.

That's sad.

And if a girl on KC or whomever truly did tell her coach that the mat was wet and if the coach truly relay the concern.....why were they ignored?

Like it's literally like their mindset was "we paid our invoices to be here tonight and 9k paid to watch this....so whatev kids....electric and Cha-cha slide your way through 2 mins and 30 seconds. Godspeed"

It's also sad that in order to discuss this it feels like F5's win is being discredited. And it shouldn't be the case.

And is anyone from USASF going to release a statement or address this? Or are they somewhere riding the tea cups

Excellent points!

I am not at all surprised the athletes didn't feel they could say anything / refuse to perform, especially the way this industry (not sport) handles injuries. How many times have we discussed in the past when is the right time to stop a routine due to an injury. Didn't two athletes collide head on and they still finished the routine? If there was debate over that incident, I can certainly see how "excuse me USASF, the floor is wet" would fall on deaf ear$.

Is USASF expected to make an official statement about this? I'm unfamiliar with any situation that even remotely falls into the same level of failure as this one and correct me if I'm wrong, they didn't release a statement about being super late last World's did they? I've seen the mention of a statement a few times now; here and the main thread and was just curious if that is a realistic expectation or people are just expecting USASF to own up to their mistakes?

Imagine if this was the NFL and they forced their athletes to play on a field that gophers were running around on. (totally hypothetical) They would be expected to do some public relations and re-build their image with their athletes and their fan base. Or else, it looks like they don't care. In general, I give companies 48 hours to issue a statement admitting their mistake along with a solution/game plan. USASF has missed that barrier. So now, it's pretty clear that they don't care.

Lol well technically it hasn't even been 48 hours yet since worlds as a whole has been over.

looks like usasf is trying to get rid of the evidence. how sneaky. found this on craigslist:

Used Cheerleading World's Mat for Sale!!!

USASF is not release a statement because there is no way in Hades an attorney would let them do that.
Imagine they release something that says "Yea we F-ed up". Imagine the type of liable situation that would put them in?

The warm up to competition time discussion is interesting to me because I feel that we always waited around 30 minutes, so I just thought it was normal. Even worse was HS cheer here, the time from warmup to competing is ridiculously long and for regionals we don't even get to warm up (warm up outside on a hill was our best solution) and you reported to them and then proceeded to wait in a staircase for at least 45 minutes before performing, typically. 10 minutes would honestly feel rushed to me simply because I was so used to long waits.

I haven't thought about it. Nobody wants a boycott. We want the governing body to protect our children. We want them to make decisions in the best of interest of them. They sure don't have any issues telling us you can't double on a youth team, you can't double double its not safe, cover your stomach, don't act to flamboyant to the boys.......this was their opportunity to follow their own rules.....do the safe thing and they dropped the ball big time!
This is something I have a huge issue with. We've had years of rules after rules after rules, all in the name of safety and decency. Then when crunch time comes, they create a truly unsafe situation and don't take responsibility.

It shows how skewed their priorities are.

I posted about this somewhere but I forgot where..
About the mat, the reason most of the tumbling stuck, was because the mat itself isn't "slippery" if left in major humidity for a while, untouched, yeah. The first team that competed should of had the biggest issue. It's the dew that gets on your hands and shoes that's the issue, hence the major stunt falls. The mat just lets the dew sit on top. Let the mat sit over night (or even 5/6 hours) yeah it'll be pretty slippery.
And obviously the red mat is just plastic(? Can't think of the right word) covering so it's a literal slip n slide.

Coaches and/or athletes- what is the longest that you feel comfortable waiting between warmups to perform?
10-15 minutes. (Athlete) I don't like only having 1 or 2 minutes, I need some time to relax, calm myself down and get in the zone as I get very affected by nerves.

So clearly USASF didnt learn the mistake last year by making all the other division winners compete in between teams, so instead they just put the dance teams in instead...

like im sorry but the people running USASF/WORLDS are complete idiots for doing that, i mean they clearly dont bother to listen to coaches/programs concerns. Did people not complain last year when large coed/all girl ran late.

My understanding is that the dance teams were put in between performances because it was a single judging panel and the teams were going back to back. Without the dancers and videos, it would have just been dead time while the judges tally the scores. At least having performances in between competitors gave the crowd and the audience at home something to watch other than an empty stage for 2.5 minutes.

No fault given to the dance teams. I definitely enjoyed watching them more than that damn video they showed every. single. time. before each awards ceremony. I wonder if any of the dancers complained about the mat being wet after they performed?

I wish the first year they moved Large finals to the stadium there had been a thunderstorm of epic proportions to such a degree that would have made the USASF question their decision to hold it there. Instead because the weather has cooperated it allowed them to continue this clusterf**k to this point.

No matter what happened and who won. To get out there in those conditions and have the ability to tumble and stunt like they did.... Well EVERY DANG ONE OF THEM KIDS ARE GOLD MEDAL WINNERS!!! Some stunts fell that haven't fallen all season. We know we've seen these teams. We know these athletes. They and their coaches and their parents should be super proud of all of them. If anything USASF should learn and know if doing this in Florida maybe a new contingency plan. Hey let's make them compete inside and do a big award ceremony for winners with fireworks and maybe some exhibitions with winning teams and dance teams in the outside so the adverse conditions wouldn't affect scores.

Imagine how much worse it will be if they try to cover it up and then lose a major law suit because someone sues them?

I can see this point, I definitely THINK they either don't care or don't know how to address it but this also presents with it's own set of challenges.
