All-Star How Much Should One Year Of Allstar Cheerleading Cost?

The stay to play "spin". Sorry, it's not a better deal for families no matter how they try to color it. At least not the way it is being handled for cheer comps.

Fun fact- 2 years ago in Dallas a couple of families checking out of the Omni and were handed the list of charges. Apologies were forthcoming when they explained they had pre paid. What was quite telling was the 100$ less per night room cost listed on bill vs what they had paid through STP.

We did much better when allowed to negotiate room blocks for our own teams (and even got free coaches rooms thrown in) The cheer version of STP as a "money saver" "better rates" "convenience" is a sham!

Also, gyms (disclaimer - not all) have figured out that uniforms, practice clothes, bows, tshirts, etc. are a great way to pad their profit. Sure some of that upcharge you're paying is being used to cover the costs of the items for kids who pay nothing (scholarships) but trust me, there's a reason for the increase in new uniforms, practice wear packages, backpacks etc. There's a good profit margin there and yes, crazy cheer parents are willing to fork it over without batting an eye. Ask to see an invoice sometime ;)

I do have to say the room block our coach got for Dallas was a bit cheaper than a regular price I found online....but my bro in law and hubby work for hotels. So exemption form here I come [emoji120]

Question: If gyms had monthly payment plans (like from May to April) that covered everything including travel and hotel costs (including a parent to go with the athlete) and helped with booking travel arrangements, would it help ease the financial burden?
No. To me that would just be shifting the costs, not changing them (unless I am missing something)...

I actually liked when two of my daughters were cheering. I had a nice discount (think it was 25%) on gym fees, but I liked the efficiency with travel. If I am driving for 4 hours and staying in a hotel, may as well be spent on two daughters. Now one is no longer cheering, and if she picks a "travel" sport it would be very challenging.

I must admit, I did the unthinkable and sat down and calculated the cost of AS Cheer and threw up in my throat... My daughter's first year in 2011- Gym Fee-$140×11 months=$1,540; Practice Wear: 3 soffe shorts and 3 Tee-Shirts+ Bow=$100; Uniform: $285 Open Gyms/Private= ~$300; Travel&Hotel~$1300; Food&Incidentials~$600...
2011 total cost approximately $3,815-$4,000
School days missed - ~3 days Missed Work days= 1 day

Last year 2014-2015
Gym Fees - $165×11months=$1815;Uniform+Bow- ~$435; Practice Wear: $200; Open Gyms &Privates=$140/month; Travel- 3 flights~$2500; Hotels~~2800; Food~$750; Incidentals~250
Missed School days= 8 days; Missed Work days= 8 days
Total cost ~ $10,150-$12,000

In 4 cheer seasons the cost ballooned astounding 40% and much of this is because of STP.

Was it the same number of competitions? Also did the out of town competitions increase?

Yes, the same #s of competitions, but the 1st gym, attended many more local competitions, and at the time, my daughter traveled with the team and coaches, so I did not need to travel along saving for flights, food, etc and missed very little work time...

However, 2nd gym team only attended prestigious competitions, mostly, out of state and most travels were link with flight with hotel stays...

PS: I must admit, I was initially so naivete about the cost and what I was signing and committing my daughter and family to... But fortunately, I realized I was spending my daughter's potential college fund and was able to pull my daughter out before she was really too hook into the cheer life...

In fairness to the facts most of your cost increase was going to new competitions that were travel, not really STP. I am not saying STP wouldn't have increased costs but I think it is fair to say the majority of your increases were just adding larger competitions that required out of town travel instead of local.

When I sit down and tabulate my daughter's 3rd season attending all those prestigious competitions.
I have to disagree with your statement....I get back to this discussion because I am checking my financial records from 2013-2014 and I will compare the difference in cost without STP to my family ....BRB

That would be appreciated! Make sure to just do hotels and if possible show hotel cost per city for both years. That would really be telling.

I can do NCA-
2011 (pre STP) 99$/night at Hotel Indigo downtown Dallas
2013 (not booked through STP) $133.00/night at Hyatt Regency Dallas
2014 (booked through connections STP) $205.00/night Hyatt Regency Dallas
2015 (booked through STP) $229.99/night Hyatt Regency Dallas

How many nights?

I know for 2016 the Hyatt Regency had a 3 night min for $299/ night in our gyms STP block and $399/night outside of our gyms STP block. Pre-paid non-refundable.

**pretty is as pretty does #dopretty

Nope. Our gym is doing it this year and it's ridiculous. I pay more a month for cheer, than I do my mortgage. And that is for 1 worlds team. [emoji24]

If it ever came to that, I don't care how heart-breaking, I'd have to tell my child no. It's a shame that it's more than most car payments for many families as is.

Why does that matter? The rate did not change based on # of nights. In each case it was 3 nights at that (stated above) per night rate plus assorted taxes charges etc. that hotels always add in. I do not recall which year the minimum stay was implemented since we are coming from the West Coast there is really no way to stay for just 2 nights.

aka to determine my cost for dallas hotel ... take the daily rate multiply x 3 and then add in about 100 in extra charges lol (none of which includes food or anything exciting like that)

It matters because the increase would be that price multiplied by the number of nights. The point is to look at this holistically.
