I watch these videos all the time online. We (meaning the county I live in and the nephew of some people I know) lost a Marine in Afghanistan on June 9, 2011, 2 weeks after his 21st birthday. At the 7pm awards session last night at Spirit of Hope they came out after all the awards were ended with a "unique situation and something that doesn't happen often and they were sorry to interrupt" (my mind automatically goes to...maybe they got my daughter's placement wrong!...I know...such a cheer mom) but the announcer brings up a girl from a gym (can't remember which) and starts trying to set it up, but as he's talking a marine (her dad) just barrels up the aisle on stage behind her...he couldn't wait :) and grabs her and the water works were on in the whole place!

It was so awesome. He was back from Afghanistan. I don't think her team won yesterday (not in my daughter's division so I didn't pay much attention) but I think she got the BEST award of all :)

Wow...that's awesome! My dad has been deployed to Afghanistan 3 times, and it's always such an amazing feeling when he comes back home. So happy for this little girl and her family :)

when i was in 2nd grade this same thing happened to me..(im a freshman now) me and my team had just competed and we were walking off the stage when my coach grabbed my arm & said he had a surprise for me, and me being in 2nd grade i was thinking it'd be candy or something, it never clicked in my mind that it could be my dad. so i go off stage with him & my mom & all i see is a really tall guy in a white uniform then i realize it was my dad :) it was the best feeling ever. i remember that day like it was yesterday. my dad was sent out to sea for 6 months that time (doesnt seem long, but when he misses your birthday, christmas, & things like that, trust me, its WAYYY too long.

im sure that girl was as happy as coud be, i know i was. <3

I stalked youtube for video...surely her mom got it or something, but I haven't found it yet.

Same situation last year at American Grand. The mother of a young girl on VCA had returned and they brought her out as a surprise with the teams award. There wasn't a dry eye in the place. I love situations like this. It really puts everything into perspective.

After 6 years of the drum band, video, and announcers long speech I miss this amazing moment! Figures....

Would you believe...I had already sat through FOUR awards that day, and decided to wait in the hallway for this one! Kicking myself, I love surprise homecomings, but I definitely would have been a sobbing mess!

That little story sent chills up my spine and a tear to my eyes. I love reading things like that. Thank you for sharing!
