All-Star 2013-2014 New Uniforms

American's new uniforms are done very well, but I was just too attached to their old ones. The new uniforms just seem overdone (the style, not the design) and nothing's really special about it. Good sublimated uniforms leave a lasting impression, and the new ones are just forgettable.

We shouldn't have to ditch bows, pretty uniforms, and big hair to become a sport/be seen as athletic. Ditch impractical uniforms, yes, but they can be pretty. Nobody's going to see us as a sport when at least half of us can't wear a proper sports bra with their uniform. But if a uniform is practical why can't it be glitzy too. If it's not holding you back/causing problems to the point where you can't do athletic things, why should we have to change it? Having a bow on my head doesn't keep me from doing a back tuck so why should I have to take it off? To please the outsiders? No thanks.
We can look pretty and be athletic at the same time, but the rest of the world doesn't understand that. They're still struggling with the fact that women can be athletes and also care about what they look like, because for a long time female athletes couldn't do the glitz, pretty dresses and hair, makeup stuff if they wanted to be accepted as legitimate athletes. But in the allstar cheer world, we know we're awesome athletes, even though the rest of the world just sees big hair and sparkle. We can't back down from that, it's giving in to the people who are stuck in the past.

Disclaimer: I, in no way, like the extreme trends we've been seeing with uniforms. I love the American uniform, and the style of it regardless of how many other teams use it, and wish it could be a standard of some sort.

However, I'd like people to realize that the American uniform is 100% what people are asking for (beautiful, glitzy, and practical/athletic), yet people are complaining because the "style" has been used too often by other teams and becoming "boring". We have to make up our minds and decide if we want to see every team in the same variation of the same uniform.

I think everyone is going to have their own version of athletic, glitz and glam and that is okay. It just needs to fall within the limits taste. I fiercely protested any restrictions on uniforms by the USASF...to the point where I was severely criticized by the majority on this board. My point has always been we shouldn't need limits because common sense and some swift painful deductions should take care of any team who was stupid enough to push the limits. I now understand how naive that was.

It's unfortunate that it won't work that way. And yes, everyone will have their own version/idea of what glitz and glam is--think stingrays vs the wildcats or American uni. Bling/no bling, different colors and accent designs. Yet ultimately the "style" is the same when you look at the cut. I just hate hearing people say a beautiful, practical uniform is "overdone" when we complain so much about what isn't practical. It's here, slapping us in the face and people are turning away from it. (I know not everyone. But enough people to make me feel as if the point needed mentioned).

Taken from GK's Facebook page, Kansas City Athletic Cheer's new Senior 5 Platinum. Love the sublimation on the shorts, and I wish there was more on sleeves! I think the ring on the back is unsafe, that has to hurt when your hand hits it coming down from a basket, and I think the back is cut wayyyyy too low! Love her hair with the braid up the back though!

My main point - Why are we spending countless hours designing uniforms, hundred of dollars paying for uniforms and bows and hairspray and make up when there is no where on a score-sheet where any of that matters.
I know it's not necessary and I fully understand that it's not for every gym, but if it makes you feel confident then why not? I like wearing a glitzy uniform and doing my hair up. Sure I can hit the routine at practice with my hair in a straight pony and no bow but I enjoy the hair and makeup and glitz, so why take that away? Stingrays doesn't have rhinestones, fancy hair, dramatic makeup and it works for them, and I'm not gonna say they have to poof their hair ten feet tall and add bling to their uniforms. If I want rhinestones and sparkle and makeup why can't I have it?

You totally can, I am not saying you can't. I am glad it makes you feel confident.

I am saying that when you/99% of other gyms around the country do I feel like it makes cheerleading look less like an athletic sport. It becomes more of a beauty pagent with a couple of flips thrown.

Double post but I like KCAC from the front, the back is a no. It's throwing me of that it's white bc their lower levels are bLack with blue accents. Not a big fan of the sublimation just because it doesn't happen anywhere else and it doesn't seem to fit. I wouldn't want to wear white shorts but props to them for being brave?

@cheernerd5678
You're point is also what I was talking about earlier - would the number of people like you - who like the big glitz aspect of cheerleading and would be put off if it became all athletic - outweight the number of people who could be drawn to the sport if it became more athletic. For growth purposes.

If that makes sense. I know what I'm trying to say I just can't get it out! Haha!
