That does look like Madi in the middle, but the only one I'd bet money on that I know who it is, is that that is Chimmy on the middle left when looking at the picture.

Ugh - Eddie annoys me by blurring that pic - Ahhh! Haha. And we got to wait like 6 months before they reveal any of it on the show :(.

im going to take a stab at it and say that the formation is: new, former ace girl far left, chimmy, madi, angelina, payton.

Oh - I call that a needle. It looked like only Gabi had a solid needle from the last year videos - but I may need to watch again...
Sorry, pet peeve rant time (this isn't just directed at you :)) Who decided to start calling them needles is my question? I don't know why, but it always drives me crazy. A needle is when you bend down and grab your ankle and your other leg is straight up in the air, at least that's what it was originally. So whenever I hear needle that is what I think of, not a straight leg scorpion. Maybe it's just me though. BTW I wish more teams would start doing the original needles, they look so pretty when done right.

Rant over... :p

YES YES YES. I don't know when that change happened but I don't like it. That is a needle to me and always will be. A really pretty straight legged scorpion is still a scorpion. Like, at a certain designated angle does it become a "needle" or a "spike"? It doesn't. It's the same body position and pulling it higher doesn't make it something else.

Needles are old school but I love them. I wish more people would do them.

Hmmm. I think these names may be regional - from how CP explains it the "needle" term is a cheer one (dance calls it something else), and it refers only to when the leg is completely straight. When the leg is extremely bent (like at a 45 degree angle) it is called a "Dorito", where the flyers leg and body actually makes the shape of a Dorito chip. All points in between the Dorito and the needle are a "scorpion". The girls refer to those who can get their leg complete straight as "having their needle" as though it is a skill.

Now that move that you're explaining above is called a "6 o'clock" around me in DANCE. Haha - gymnastics calls it something totally different (it's a common move on the balance beam). I need to ask CP what the gym term was cause I forget.

Funny how all these moves have different names in different areas and are even different for the different actvities.

I've never heard anyone actually say "I'm going to pull my dorito". I think that's more of just a nickname for a bad scorpion.

Unless people are actually calling it that in all seriousness now in which case I find that hilarious.

I think it's more of a generational thing. My sister is 11 years younger than me and frequently refers to "having her needle". I cheered at the same gym as her way back when and a scorp was a scorp, no matter what angle the leg was at.

To me, it seems like people starting calling them needles out of nowhere after the 09-10 season. Lol

YES!! People look at me like I have 2 heads when I say this. I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I refuse to call them needles. I just refer to them as straight leg scorpions or occasionally spikes. Spikes still sound weird to me though.
