If you want one I could give you one since I took US History when I lived there for a year.
I definitely got a different viewpoint on WWII. Most awkward hours of my life: watching Schindler's list during that class.
Totally have to read the screenplay from Schindler's List and watch the movie and compare them for my film class. Yay me :(

I did a term paper on Schindler's List for one of my film classes. We had to research why the movies we chose were put on the AFI's top 100 movies list. If you have time to learn how the movie was made and compare it to the happenings of the film industry at the time, it's wicked interesting. It's seriously so cool. The film was never supposed to make it as big as it did. It made me appreciate the movie a lot more - even if I can't bear to watch it again :p

I'm essentially trying to evaluate a limit as x is approaching 1, and the denominator is (x+7)^1/3 - 2, which wouldn't work out, so I'm just trying to get rid of the roots somehow. It's actually written as √ with a 3 in the front, not actually as an exponent, if that matters, I just don't know how to do a cube root sign on my phone.

Eta: fixed the expression

I don't think you can get rid of the roots in this case. Here, when x approaches 1, the denominator approaches 0. That'll make the entire expression zoom straight to infinity when x is close to 1. Only thing you need to figure out is whether it's positive or negative infinity.

Cube root is a monotonically increasing function, that'll make things easier. The cube root of 8 is 2.
If x approaches 1, but stayes above (x > 1), then the cube root of (x + 7) will be above 2. And (x + 7)^(1/3) - 2 will be close to 0, but still positive. So the limit would be positive infinity. Reverse for (x < 1).

I assumed there was no numerator, so if there is one, things might be trickier though.

Lol I would never have considered Albany upstate, but that's because I'm from Rochester. We don't think anything except Rochester, Syracuse, and Buffalo are actually "upstate NY." [emoji12]

But definitely agreed that they're probably pretty used to heavier snowfall. I wouldn't hold my breath for a snow day, but maybe you'll get one! Fingers crossed for you...

I live smack dab in the middle of syracuse and rochester and someone tried to live me i live in central NY... like if this is central where is upstate? Canada? :p my school has underground tunnels so it's more likely that individual professors cancel because most live a good distance away. we have about 3? inches right now but the roads are TERRIBLE. like i almost lost control in my 2 mile commute.

I will say NJ/NYCers may freak out about snow and act like the world is ending, but their snow removal/road treatment trumps everything up here. they don't know how good they have it. (it's also possible the road plowing up here sucks because it's "JUST" three inches and that's nothing they're not used to. idk, but jersey girl is still not used to it)

You are borderline Central NY. Upstate to me is just about everything north of interstate 90 in the Adirondack area.

**Aaaaaaand what little troll told you that rumor?**

We're in an election year, so our snow removal is on point this year. Usually it's absurd though. All my southern friends always use that as an excuse for why they are so bananas when it snows - "They don't plow here, so we have to close everything!"

Pfffffffffft. They don't plow here either - only the main roads, and even that takes a couple days sometimes. Side streets can shovel themselves out. No excuses. We just drive on it. Lame... I miss the south.

I would love that. I love history, and always find it fascinating how views are skewed by where you live ect.

I don't think I've ever chanted USA! in my life. I'd be very interested on an outsiders view of American history though.

In college we used to chant it at parties...we had a massive party the day after the Boston Marathon bomber was caught that was supposed to be "prep" themed and it turned in to "America is the best country/prep" themed.

I miss college sometimes.

...I'd love to take US History outside of the south
Most interesting educational experience of my life. Took US History in the 8th grade in Michigan and had to take it again in the 11th grade in NC. 3 days on the civil war in Michigan was 3 weeks on the war of northern aggression in NC. Would never know they were talking about the same thing.

exactly...and don't forget, the names of Civil War battles change depending on if it's the North or South perspective

My random thoughts for the day:

1. Miss Jamaica was robbed. I don't even understand - she is EVERYTHING. (except Miss Universe...) I am certainly no pageant expert, but I think they got it all wrong.

2. I need the east coast to calm down. Buffalo got like 3-6 feet of snow last November. THAT'S a "storm of the century." 2 feet is most definitely not. Not that 2 feet isn't a lot - I know that it's enough to snow you in for a day or so. But it is most definitely *not* storm of the century material.
In case you don't know what 3-6 feet of snow looks like, here:

lol number 9 on that link is the best, i wonder if they were truly waiting for a bus to come get them or if they were just trying to escape the weather.

aw man really? I trust your judgement on the state lol I guess because my whole life I was told our vacations to Saratoga were "Upstate" that makes me all sorts of confused. I know there are lots of places in NY much more north of me... but I guess because you have to go east first with the way the state is shaped is why I am under the impression that this is upstate.

If you ask a person from NYC where upstate is and they'll tell you anything just north of the city.

To me Rochester and Buffalo are Western NY.

Binghamton is Southern and anything south of Albany in the Catskills are lost in the shuffle.
