Noticing many gyms have separate "flyer tryouts" now and I think that's a great idea. Can someone explain the process, i.e., does this help with strengthen stunt groups and assist with team placement? I see a lot of the Cheer Athletics gyms are having them.

Our gym does them, and brings in experienced bases and they basically rotate through stunts. It helps the coaches build stunt groups/teams knowing who wants to fly, and what their ability is.

Thanks, I'm seeing this quite often in tryout announcements this season and wondered about its benefit in deciding groups and team placements.

We are adding it in this season as a specialized focus. We created a flyer tryout video. Athletes pick which level they're trying out for. First round is body positions on a stunt stand. If they pass this round they go to a stunt group and must perform the skills shown in the video for the level they're trying out for. Flyers who have level tumbling and flying are selected first.

I like this (particularly for kids new to your gym.)

So much better than reading "flyer for four years" on paperwork.

If you are allowed, can you post the videos? I would love to see them.

OR
Susie has been a flyer for 4 years. Susie walks into the gym and says to the coaches "Can I fly? I flew for the last four years." Coach says "Ok, let's see what you've got." Susie flys a sponge, prep (half), cradle. Coach says "This is a level 3 team. Becky, you're the flyer."
