I know for sure that a kid who took privates with me and cheered at another gym has a close to $1,000 standing BHS (This includes privates and classes and privates across two gyms, over the course of about a year and a half, and battling an off-and-on mental block due to injuries.)

I'm sure that's a drop in the bucket compared to what others have spent.

Ignorance may be bliss for some of you. lol.
I would probably estimate my BHS somewhere around there. It took classes off and on for about three years then regularly for maybe three more to have it solid. (It came and went during that whole time)

My RO lay was probably close to $1000, now that I think about it, between tumbling classes and private lessons. But I don't have kids either, and nothing else I really spend money on, so why not. If you throw in chiro/massage and physio on top of that, well, lets just say I'm glad I have coverage for that. I probably could have retired by now. ;)

I'm now imagining the price of my inconsistent standing tuck and... Yeah my mom doesn't need to add that up. It took so long and so many privates... I got my backhandspring in 6th grade, running tuck and multiples early 7th (so that's when I started working standing tucks) and didn't get my standing tuck until my senior year. And then it disappeared and has been off and on (mostly off) since the fall. Eek!

That is really interesting that so many teams only practice once a week. At our gym, last year my daughter was on a mini prep team and they practiced once a week for 1.5 hours. This year she is on J1 and they have practice twice a week, Mon for and hour and Wed for three hours, but that includes an hour of tumble. We do sometimes have extra practices near a comp. We did last year so I assume we will this year too.

I can't imagine the price for my parents. I had a bad case of tumbling blocks throughout cheer. One day I'd be throwing fulls and working on doubles and the next day I'd struggle to do a BHS. It must've been very frustrating for my parents to see me fluctuate so much and wonder if my tumbling classes were worth it.

Looks like Vizion will have 2 level 5s this year! So exciting for them!!

I disagree with this...I think, when my daughter was doing gymnastics, the cost was considerably less and the reason for this, I paid a monthly fee which was like the same amount as cheer tuition, however, gymnastics everything was inclusive - tumbling and the hours were like 10 hrs a week...but cheer, the hours are less and you most of the time paying separately for tumbling, by way of open gyms, tumbling and/or privates...

I must admit, I spent($$$) a lot on fulls and standing tucks...
Well, my daughter has only been doing cheer for a month:). Seems quite less at this point-lol

Congrats to your daughter and good luck in her new endeavor... May I ask, what team is she on?

It just seemed like new skills are taught regularly during practice in gymnastics, but in cheer you need extra classes and privates to learn new things. Practice is for the team to work on the routine.

Monthly tuition is similar. Gymnastics competition fees are much lower and no stay to play.

She's on a Jr. 2 team at a small gym near us, if she really ends up loving cheer we'll probably move over to your daughter's gym(though I think you said she's taking a year off) next year so she can be on a team with kids more her age-she's 7 1/2.
Monthly tuition would have been $450 a month plus uniforms, coaches fees, meet fees, etc. Much more than cheer will cost me this year!

We have 2 local competitive gymnastics gyms. Both cost about twice what cheer does.

I can totally see your side of it then. When a lot of us start talking about the "cost" of cheer, we are including the travel costs, which for a lot of us (especially level 5/worlds teams) pretty much doubles the cost of tuition/comp fees/uniforms, etc. This past season, I spent about $10k not including the $5 Dipping Dots/$5Diet Cokes/$10nuggets LOL...

My CP's journey from starting Allstars to a BHS was 2 1/2 years, and I am sure well over the $1000 figure quoted earlier. In terms of what she learned about hard work, perseverance, and determination I think it was money well spent.
