I have a feeling that they were not going to make letterman jackets in youth sizes for possibly 20-30 kids... I think you are reading to much into it.

This is so true, no matter how ugly the jacket the jacket represents something. My daughter has NCA jackets and jackets that are of much less material wise but she wears them all. My daughter would not donate any of hers she loves them that much although we misplace them from time to time. This is probably going to sound more b****y than I mean it to, but here goes.
(*this is not singular to this particular thread - I feel this way every year around this time of year)
I genuinely hate when people complain about jackets. I'm sure if you asked the 2nd place team, they're not sitting in the car on their 14 hour (or 10 hour or 2 hour - whatever) ride home, thanking God they didn't win so they don't have to wear the inferior jacket.
Do you know how many kids dream of even going to Cheersport? My kids never got to go - every year they'd get their comp schedules and pray that Cheersport was on it, but it never was. My older one aged out without ever seeing the GWCC.
Do you know how many kids this was the biggest competition they'll ever see? How many kids spent their entire season gearing up for this big event?
I cannot imagine being mad about a jacket. I'm pretty sure I could find about 10,000 kids this morning who wouldn't have cared if it was made out of saran wrap, as long as they won it.
I must apologize if it appears that I was putting down anybody with cps on other levels, I was simply trying to figure this out too, why certain levels and believe me, why some levels receive one type of jackets and the level 5 received different prizes. Another thing I noticed is only level 5s are written about for numerous pages on FB and are televised. So, I primarily mentioned possible reason why the different treatment... Even on FB, I learned exactly what all the level 5 teams did in details, particularly, the large senior girls and large coed, and the writings went on for pages, but I wanted to know how my new favorite team WC StarBurst did in Cheersport, guess what? Guess what? Not a peep... Guess what, I did not read a peep about any other levels, but level 5s. So I guess in cheerleading, level 5s must be the major leagues and all other levels are in the minor leagues...This is only my perception of watching different events that is happening... Please tell me and demonstrate how I am wrong...I will love to be wrong on this matter!Maybe since my kid is on a J3 team, but most of my attention was centered on all of the J3 teams competing and I didn't make it to see one "5" team compete except for the one I had to be present for by attendance taken from our team parent was our own level 5. I subscribed to Dartfish, though, so I could get caught up on all of the teams, because, yes, I enjoy cheer that much, but CP's team was hoping to upgrade to paid for Summit was their dream and 1st leg of triple crown. Ended up with a final score of 98.02 and third place. Yes, some of us truly care about other divisions, too, besides 5, especially when we're chasing Summit bids. I know some kids hungry for the jackets now at NCA, too, but at least they left in their blanket!! (Cheersport, they love the blankets!!) There were four small gym division J3, Three small J3 divisions, 1 large small gym J3 division and 2 large J3 divisions. Think lots of folks cared about J3, too, and other divisions, too. Don't get me wrong, love level 5, but I am fully enjoying CP's path and she will get to 5 eventually, but I'll probably be caring for the level 4 divisions greatly the next two years at least. It is what it is. Love those fleece jackets. Kids grow up too fast. Enjoy each jacket, celebrate each victory, celebrate their highest score this season, even if it meant 3rd place, and keep on admiring and be wowed by those 5 teams, but I promise I don't think less of my J3 kid and enjoying each year and each level. Yes, Cheersport may be trying different things to make it a little more appealing to lure some of the teams back that swore they'd never go back, CP's gym was one of them, first time back in three years, but I think it was the Varsity scoring and Summit bids, Worlds bids that brought our 8 or 9 teams back than the level 5 jacket.
ETA: That whole triple crown thing I think is working for them, too.

Exactly how you just explained it, and @Just-a-Mom pretty much summed up my response. I'm not sure why the material of the Cheersport jacket means so much to you if you are just going to donate it to goodwill or discard it in 2 weeks if you win NCA.In what sense? I am just saying that she wants that NCA jacket more than anything, and if she wins it, she wont wear much else. That NCA jacket has been her "dream" for a couple of years. She'll probably sleep in in for a week or so... I was trying to say we might as well goodwill ALL of her jackets (cheer and not cheer related) if they are fortunate enough to win NCA.
How were you interpreting it??
Congratulations to those that won jackets whether they be leather sleeves, fleece or rayon sheer mesh with bling. Given the number. of kids who performed this weekend in the hopes of getting one, and the number of kids who reached that goal, that's an amazing accomplishment. Wear them proudly (whatever they are made of).

No, this not true... Last year, Athletics and One Up gave Letterman jackets to only 5s, excluding R5 and all others got the sweatshirt type jackets and many people were surprise by this difference, but Athletics went back on given everyone the same jackets...if anyone's comments are directed at me (though guessing they are directed at someone else) just to clarify I am no longer in the sport and I had a jacket-less cheerleading career. Outside of a hooded sweater shirt or two I have zero jackets to commemorate my years cheering, and I am perfectly happy with that. I only "complain" because CHEERSPORT is the only competition that I know of that treats their national champions differently based on level. it's not even just youth 5 not getting the leather. it's level 5 and everyone else. I don't understand why they do that. that's all. didn't mean to stir the pot, if I did.

One interpretation could be that Cheersport is a lower-grade competition and therefore the jacket/championship isn't as good. Considering I have heard a parent say that before, it can be taken as a slight. In what sense? As another parent said before, Youth 5 is a small group (with tinier athletes.) It's entirely possible that it is cost prohibitive to have 20 custom jackets made in those sizes. Maybe they should charge more for the Youth 5 teams to compete?
