The split is coming, Varsity finds a new way to exploit this industry every month it seems like. There are already way too many gym owners, parents, and producers who are already fed up with them and they continue to push the envelope.

Just in the past few months, live streaming laws have been a hot topic concerning commercial and private use. While live streaming is not new, the legal aspects concerning quality, privacy, copyrights, and commercial use are starting to surface. Privacy example: A kid is live streaming their team putting on make up in a restroom, the mirror catches a child undressing in a corner. Who is responsible, the child recording, the event producer, the place where it is being held, the live stream app, ....?

It will be a cold day in hell that my kid is not "allowed" to live stream her and her team having a team dinner at a competition. Var$ity does not own the hotels and restaurants and they don't even own the competition venue. This is Varsity's version of 1984 and the fact that they see nothing wrong with that statement is mind boggling. I can not WAIT until my kid is done with this ridiculousness.

It says personal live streaming only of performances. I don't disagree with your sentiment but we're not at that point...yet.

ETA: Actually I agree that Varsity has already crossed the line, it's just not at the "no personal live streaming anywhere" point. It's a small step from this to "no personal video at all." The gym already makes us agree to not share video until the season is over, so I'm not live streaming performances anyway. The wording is also very open ended for commercial videos on event related locations.

My guess is that they don't want people making $ off of live streaming the event. It doesn't affect me. Now if they said that you couldn't record (NOT live stream) for personal use, I would have a problem with that since I like it when friends forward me video's of their kids routines.

Facebook Live, Periscope, IG live - how is anyone making $ off sharing live feeds with their family and friends? I think you meant they don’t want Varsity NOT to make every penny they can.

i think its bull****. i get its probably due to the fact that so many people live streamed their worlds feeds the past year or two, and varsity is pissed.
but people werent making money off varsity by live streaming, cause it was free. So i dont get why varsity thinks they are losing money. The people who wouldnt buy the stream last year, arent suddenly going to buy it this year.
on top of the fact that varsity takes a whole month to upload any form of worlds content......

people will still just record video and upload it the very next day or two WITH sound... varsity is still going to be pissed, because they have to spend all those resources stalking video sites to copyright them...

No, personal live streaming, I was replying quickly and didn't notice that I put that. It says "the personal, non-commercial use of live streaming apps."

You could literally record and post to FB two minutes later. It's not live streaming.

I called them out on social media for it as well for the school side of things. Seems a bit heavy handed.

I get why, but its unnecessary. We talked about these types of rules a lot when I was doing marketing with VS, guess they decided to push forward with one now. The issues with cheer videos and live streams are soo complicated from so many different vantage points, guess we'll see how this proceeds this season.

Worlds is not a Varsity comp so I don't think these rules would apply there. Also, posting recorded videos isn't listed on this either, but we all know that hasn't stopped them from taking videos down in the past. I don't think it will affect a whole lot, plus Varsity has never been the best at enforcing their own rules any way.
