I want to know how some people can pay to be on an all star team and not take things seriously? It makes me so frustrated that I pay good money to be on a team and certain people on the team don't take it seriously and decide to not show up to practices or even competitions. I know that the owner/coach should say something to these people or kick them off but no matter how many times myself or other people say nothing happens. I'm at the point where I might switch gyms because of this but there's no decent gyms near me that I'd like to join.

I'm stuck :(

I know exactly how you feel. I ended up taking a year off of allstar this year because I was just so fed up about how no one took anything seriously. And the closest good gym to me is about an hour away and gas prices on top of what it would cost to cheer at that gym just wasn't realistic for me. So I'm doing football cheer, basketball cheer, and competetive at my high school this year and it's so much better. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Well my issue is I'm 22 so the only options I have are stay on the team, quit for sometime or move and join a new gym lol I coach high school and other teams so if I stopped cheering myself I would become very upset and prob cry everytime I brought my kids to competitions. ughs its annoying!

Sometimes the only thing that lacks in motivation for a squad is a leader. Sometimes, the priorities and passions of others are not exactly where yours is but a leader/captain can halp turn that around. It's difficult when competition season rolls around and the kids want to be like the top team, have flexibility like point flyer from team A, but do nothing about it afterwards...... Its difficult to comprehend how it seems that some athletes are content with "not getting better" so to speak and only want to get by with the bare minimum while others are in the gym working hard, extra hours, arriving early to practice ect. Good luck

Thank you. I think because we are an Open team that the leadership thing is an issue. We have a coach and hes great and everyone listens to him but I think since everyone is an adult those that don't show up think that since they are adults that they can do whatever they want and it doesn't matter about practices :(

I was talking to a friend on here about this issue because there's a girl on her cp's team that's the exact same way - lazy, always whines, doesn't take it seriously. Eventually, the team got fed up with her laziness and kind of laid into her. Pretty openly. She cried a bit and questioned whether or not she wanted to be on the team. Not sure if he made her decision or not, but having her teammates look her in the face and tell her to stop being lazy seemed to make an impact. She knows if she chooses to stay, she needs to beef up her work ethic, and if she doesn't want to do that, she can go.

I know how you feel. I let the gym I was at because of this and some other issues. I always felt like I was the only one who cared about what we were doing. It felt like a big joke after awhile. I mean you're parents pay a lot of money for you to do this sport and if you're not liking the way things are going, change it. It might mean going to a different gym or just trying to make it work with the team. Just do whats best for you, that's what I had to do and it was one of my best decisions.

Sometimes i feel like nobody is as dedicated just because im so obsessed with cheer.
I have cheer camp tomorrow, and im like, counting down the hours. Some girls on my team are like, why are you excited for camp, it sucks. Its that way with practices. Im just so stoked to be there, and other girls aren't.

I have to remind myself that cheerleading is my passion, and to other people it's just an activity.

I'm 20 and I'm still obsessed! Finding it hard to accept that this is probably my last year cheering since I'm on a college team. Going to need to find a graduate job near an allstar gym!
