but how many teams actually use all members in an elite stunt? (large senior wise)
I think FCA, Stars, and F5 are the only ones that had an elite stunt with 9 stunts (aka no front spots)
True, but at level 5 I feel like that should be the goal. Maybe 30 gives some teams an easy out from having to use everyone to win? Just a thought...

30 still kills me w/ not being divisible by 4. Uuuugggghhhhhhhhghghghg

Its because of that reason medium is so attractive. Alternates are built in.

I know I know...you and I have had this discussion before haha. I still don't like it

Many, many teams have won without using the "normal" number of stunts - even in divisions that divide evenly by 4. The crowd seems to most often prefer quantity of skills, while judging favors quality.

There is nothing magical about having 4 total in a group. You can put up stunts with just 3 per group, so technically, a large team could put up 13 stunts, or a medium could put up 10 (theoretically more with the use of double/triple awesomes). Fortunately, competitions aren't just about who has the most bodies in the air.

OR you only take 35 people and then your ratios (for a judge) are 8 stunts.

I agree with what your saying, hence the reason I used the word "goal". In my mind level 5 should be striving to max out both quality and quantity.

Also while there is nothing magical about 4, for all-girl it is the sort of the industry-accepted standard. (I did love Fame for stepping out of the box last year with 10 and GBE juniors and MT juniors sucessfully put up more stunts when they competed small at worlds a couple of years ago, which helped them on the international scoresheet).

I know of at least one team that has been very successful with this strategy (and there are probably more), smart coaching is all I can say...

Spice did it last year and it worked out well for us I would say. Stepping out of the box gets a lot of fan support, but doesn't necessarily translate to scoresheet results. But, again, it probably determines what your end goal is. Being talked about or getting fan support means little to me personally. I would rather win over anything else (even if I was the least favorite by everyone).

It is currently what most L5 teams do, but that has changed over the years. It used to be 5 was the "standard". It was changing to 3 a few years ago until elite mounts started being required to score in the top range.

I agree with Kingston that pushing the difficulty in stunts really makes you popular with the fierce board crowd, but that really doesn't translate into enough actual points on your score to offset the risk. This seems particularly true about total number of skills. After you score enough to get you in the range, there is little score reward for going beyond that. Perhaps there should be, but until there is, coaches who care more about scores and wins for their teams than "buzz" will not push the envelope.

As I said, smart coaching :), I didn't realize Spice had 35, was actually referring to Tsunami which has been successful with this strategy as well. I am just not sure I like the idea of "building in the 2 extras", but I guess to look at it from the flip side, maybe it evens things out even more since all teams with 28-30 will have to put up 7 stunts to max out quantity. A team with 24 to 27 could put up 6 stunts and still be competitive (I will be curious to see how many teams go this route).

Me too! I'm actually a little more excited than I thought I'd be to see this new division.

Its SO attractive for programs. It allows for growth and loss and such a LOWER barrier of entry. It would even have the same effect in lower levels... actually probably stronger because that's where a lot of your tumbler front spots are.

After we get all divisions to 30 the next step will be age ceilings and floors. I'm now leaning towards 3 groupings.

8 and under
9 - 14
12 - 18.

My 8 yr olds, with like the youngest of tiny's? (3yrs) I think there needs to be a tiny division, since a lot of those children are space cadets, and dont have much skill at this point. While some mini's, even at 6 or 7, can be right of point and fierce. So if you're running a small program, and having to combine all these athletes could end in disaster!

And as a coach, working with Tinys through to Junior, I would not want to face the extreme differences of a few years, and have to try and choreograph a routine around it.

But, if this were a perfect world, the idea is great
