All-Star 2012-2013 Age Grid For Worlds Teams

The problem is that the issues in cheerleading are deeper than a one rule fix. I'm concerned anyone making changes hitches each problem as a A= B situation. In reality A = B + C + D - F / Q * Delta S. it's like watching two routines and saying 'they won just cause they were good stunters'. We all know that isn't true. If a team could only stunt and not tumble or basket they wouldn't be able to hang. But so many can only see one piece to the puzzle.

I will say the rules I think are trending in the right direction, but are only part of the solution. I hope everyone is attacking all pieces and possibilities with solutions to squash this at once. If anyone needs help, I'm available :)

Maybe they could announce the bottom age change a few years in advance to soften the blow...like they did when they changed the cutoff date from May to August. I know finding out ahead of time helped me prepare for loosing that extra year I thought I would have. I was the first year effected.

This is my issue, give them more than a couple months notice before tryouts, especially when they have been thinking all year that they will be eligible this coming year. I'm sure not all 12 year olds are ready, but why can't we just trust the coaches judgement. They don't HAVE to use 12 year olds, but please don't take away the option.

I completely agree. I am not against the age changing, but I think it is wrong to make the make notification so late. If they are going to make the change they need to give one season notice. There are several girls in my daughters gym that are going to be crushed if this happens for the 2012-13 season.

It is before most tryouts, so to me this is the example of last minute BUT still reasonable. Real rule changes should be at minimum 6 months before may.

Isn't this a REAL rule change?? I'm sure it will effect a lot of people and teams.

Anyway, do we know if this is truly going to happen?

At this moment I am going off Rudags and his info. Although a lot of it makes plenty of sense.

Be thankful if the new age rule comes out now, and not in Dec! I'm all for it btw. 14 would even be better! I'm not for restricting tumbling though. You may have stopped it from happening at the competitions, but bad form and progression, IMO, is a result of tumbling coaches. They will still be the ones out there pushing to get kids to the next level that they're not ready for yet.

I agree. If they take out bounding skills and standing fulls then those who can't teach proper tumbling will continue to push athletes into fulls and doubles when they aren't ready. Injuries will still be happening.

Also if they remove standing fulls and bounding skills then they might as well get rid of the restricted divisions since the only difference will be one is only fulls and the other isn't.

I'm honestly hoping that they implement the new age rule! I'm tired of seeing itty bitty girls in the air. What happened to normal senior aged kids? Plus I think junior 5 will grow even more!

One thought: what if they raised the age to 14 for senior 5, but then allowed junior 5 to worlds. I would totally be pumped for that!

Question. Are they only talking about bounding like full dub? They are not looking at Combo passes like punch front through to a double?

I can see how if you have cheered your entire life and your finally old enough to be on a senior team for the upcoming season and then having it get pushed back, I would be pretty frustrated, but with that being said there is a HUGE difference between a 12 year old and an 18 year old...not just skill level wise but maturitly level. The kinds of things high school seniors are doing are lightyears different than that of 7th graders.
