All-Star Instead Of Reducing Tumbling How About Huge Tumble Bust Deductions

I feel like this could work. For one of our score sheets in IL, whether it's a stunt fall or a tumble bust, it's still 4 points deducted. I think it works too because in warmups when someone doesn't seem to be landing they pull it or water it down immediately. I imagine that coaches would see that its better to have a watered down pass than to bust...
People shouldn't be waiting til warmups to remove skills.

I LOVE this idea! I love it because it would not only keep teams performing skills they have mastered, but also tame parents a bit (no more, "Susie has a tuck on the trampoline and should be level 3 for sure!") And I would love to see it at ALL levels!

But where I get scared is thinking of a mini 1 team my CP was on, and we had a girl who could do front and back walkovers in her sleep just have an off day. I can't imagine the devastation to a team (and the resulting finger pointing) saying they went from 1st to 9th because of that tumble issue. And that is a ton of pressure to put on the lower levels as an individual.

I don't know about judges / judging, but as a parent, I think I can tell between a) a normally done well back walkover that fell vs. b) a back walkover that shouldn't have been attempted in the first place. Perhaps the execution score should take more of the hit?? I am not sure how to make this right, but I would love to see the "scary" tumbling penalized, but not the flukes (well the flukes should still be penalized, but not to the degree of something that shouldn't be thrown in the first place.) And yes, I realize that is totally subjective, and doesn't really provide a solution to the issue.

I cut your post down a bit for size issues- but even in other sports, flukes still get punished. My brother can spike like it's his job, but when his hand misses and he nets it, it's still a penalty. We've seen gymnasts lose world/olympic titles on easy turns or on a missed grip that is so easy a level 4 could do it..but even still, you don't see SUPER serious risks on things that could cost them a loss. They're cautious about putting enough in to win/demonstrate their awesome without killing themselves or going overboard. That's where we need to be..

I have never been given a tumble deduction in the past couple of years because if I know I wont land something and am likely to get hurt, I throw a layout instead. My coach might be upset for a minute but knowing that I wasn't going to land it and get hurt he understood why I didn't. It is possible to make it so important that if your going to fall, you pull out and throw an easier skill.

I agree that higher tumbling deductions is the key, but not increasing bust or touch down deductions. Technique however... We are trying to increase technique so it is safer, not just whoever can land it. You can land and still hurt yourself.
