I'm sorry but I do not like this.

For 1- my oldest is on a worlds lvl 5 and we already miss school to fly to WORLDS. And then to turn around a week later to possibly do it for my youngest is asking to much and to many days absent.

I have 2 kids one lvl 5 senior and one youth 2.
There is no way I'd want to pay for Disney two weekends in a row.

The idea is awesome , but location and date I do not like
I'm with you on both of those points. I don't like the location of Disney. While yes, I think it's a great attraction for kids and yes, the kids would love to have the "worlds" experience of being there, I just don't think it's that's easy for parents and their wallets/time.

I guess they may have thought if you have multiple kids you could just stay in Disney the full week - but that's so much $$!!

I hope they re-think the location and the date....the rest of the concept is great for a true end of the year "finals."

Stay tuned....

Ugh, this exactly.

Small town level 4 team from farmland Eastern Washington lost by .5 to ECE and HEAT because these teams had level 5 crossovers -_-
That's the worst. And you can't even explain it to your kids. What do say? Just shake your head. I have always felt very strongly against Worlds level athletes not being allowed to cross down to lower levels, even in smaller gyms.

There is no way I could stay at Disney a whole week. That's asking my kids to miss Monday -Friday and the following Monday. My high schooler would not be able to exempt finals and missing 6 days of school in a row is not going to happen.

Lvl 5 worlds athlete and sister youth 2 fly to lvl 5 worlds Friday b4 lvl 5 worlds. Stay all the next week at Disney then fly home the Monday after all lvl worlds? Thats too many absences

The name reminds me of the Real World/Road Rules Challenges on MTV.

I wonder how many Level 5 athletes at gyms that compete at Worlds have siblings on talented teams that will be competing less than a week later in the same location.

I think a lot probably do. I see more of a problem for the coaching staff for small gyms. Since some coaches will be at worlds then who would practice with the lower level kids for this competition while they are gone. I see this competition for programs without a level 5 worlds team. I don't feel like parents could or would pay to stay the week or fly back and forth. This comp is not feasible for west coast teams in my opinion. Yet, I know that some will go =).

Was wondering the same thing - teams with coaches in Disney for Worlds who now have to get back to their gyms ASAP to practice with the younger teams to turn back around to take them back to Disney.
Cost, crowd issuess and sandbagging were the the first three things that came to mind, especially the last one. Imho kids who are on Worlds teams with bids (even at-large) should not be allowed to compete on any other teams anyway, especially a lower level team.

If people can afford to go to UCA nationals, i don't see the problem. I can guarantee there will be an option to stay off property. And you can eliminate one of your other nationals if you know this is coming.
Not if you need one of those nationals in order to get a bid. Unless you're lucky enough to live near one those are traveling competitions...at least they are for our gym. Myrtle beach looked like the closest one to us (Charlotte) and UCA is one were planning to attend with just a few teams but that's in Disney....which is part of the problem. Depending where you are you might not have the flexibility to drop a traveling competition if your intent is to go to the summit. Or you're dropping something like cheersport and that's not a good trade to me. I'd rather go to cheersport and not attend the summit.

This is something that sounds great in theory, but kinda sucks in practice for our gym for a number of reasons.

1. The idea that you have to do a major travel competition just to qualify for another major travel competition. I can see that justification for senior-aged athletes on a level 5 team more than I can for my 9-year-old on a youth team.

2. The distribution of qualifying events. There are pretty big chunks of the country that aren't represented by a world's bid event at all, because there just aren't enough gyms with world's teams in the era justify it.

3. Disney. We went to Disney on vacation last year. It was a great time - an expensive great time, however, and that was staying off-property and doing as much on the cheap as we could. We have teams that go to UCA every year (as their "reward" trip) and I've heard from parents on those teams that they're tired of going to Florida every single year.

4. Time out of school. See above. The idea of having to miss two days of school (at a bare minimum) to get a bid, plus three or four more to go to the competition seems like a non-starter. That was the biggest complaint parents had about our comp schedule last year. For gyms in closer proximity to Disney it's a great idea, but for a gym like ours in the boondocks not so much.

And that isn't even getting into the logistics of the event itself.

We have had that problem too, not to say that our level 4's shouldn't be just as good at their own level but still tough to compete against kids who already have perfect layouts and full-ups to the top.

Are you from Force or American Cheer?

My questions is when are EP's going to stop trying to make all these competitions "the next best thing". We have NCA, then Worlds, then US Finals, then All Levels, now the Summit. All these events, including the Majors are just trying to out do each other each season. I feel it diminishes the 100 plus national events we already have in place. The more event producers try to make this "end of the season" FINALS event, the less 2 day events most gyms will attend during the regular competitive season. It will be to expensive for our customer base to attend, especially to attend Florida on an at large/partial paid bid.

Just my two cents..
