There no bids for mini teams. They will not be announced as a bid anything, just as a j5 team wouldn't be considered for a Worlds bid. Youth and up, levels 1 through restricted 5 only. I have a sneaking suspicion the youth age brackets are going to explode with teams in the next couple years.
I know, I mean the mini team who won grand champ of level 1 this past season. It was announced that 5 grand champs from all levels would receive a partial bid to the summit. Pro Athletics level 1 team is a mini

I believe someone stated on page 2, that they get to use it for any of their teams...since Mini isn't included.

I think that this will be a great, very organized and very well run event as I worked for Varsity for many years and loved my time with the company. I have a hard time understanding how this event will be "Prestigious" considering that is the first year that is has been held, or how it can be marketed as "Highly Competitive" not knowing if any teams will actually be there.

I'm not trying trying to knock this event in any way, just trying to understand the basis for this advertising as it seems misleading to me. I hope that it is all of those things for many years to come, just don't think that is any of them right now.

You are 100% right. I've been scratching my head trying to think how they can even justify these claims.

My guess is that this will be not much more than a large regional-type event that has a few teams who might otherwise attend UCA sprinkled in. Not saying that it isn't a good idea, just that the timing couldn't be any worse. Most of the teams that might actually prefer a 'destination' location to end their season have already had their spring breaks by then and likely won't be able to add this to their schedule. I can't imagine many parents in Illinois (for example) wanting to fly to Disney just to spend the weekend for another competition.

I would really be interested to see what Varsity's attendance projections/forecasting model is spitting out for this event. If the go/no-go decision on this was primarily made based on a couple of focus groups, I would be very scared. If I was a gym owner and wanted to attend a 'major competition', I would demand in writing that I get full reimbursement if there were fewer than 200 teams registered to attend, not go, and give the parents back their money.

How do you want them to market it? "It might be fun and prestigious. It might be highly competitive. It could just be an average competition, though. Who knows? Please come to our event!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Of course they're playing it up.

Im just wondering who's going if they get a bid? How are the gyms handling telling their teams about this? So many people I talk to have no idea that this even exists. Their gyms havent told them about it but they will be attending some of the comps on the list that are giving out bids.

Of course. :) Words like "prestigious" and "competitive" are subjective anyway.

I did notice on the link provided above that mini 2 is an offered division... so essentially the only divisions without an official "end of year" grand championship/whatever-you-want-to-call-this are mini 1 and tiny. Interesting...

I noticed that too... I wonder why?

I'd much rather the winners of The Summit be called something like "American Champions". If there's no international, you're not the world champion. Also "National Champion" is kinda losing it's meaning. Just a thought.

My best guess would be that out of all of the divisions, mini 1 and tiny are the divisions that most would consider "fun" divisions. Don't get me wrong, there are definately some amazing teams at that level. However, a lot of parents put their kids in cheer at those ages just to see if they like it. Older girls are typically more familiar with what is involved in this sport, so it isn't so much a "try it" type experience, versus just "doing it" for the first time. I know there are exceptions, but I personally could not justify flying from say, California to Florida for my four year old to perform for 2.5 minutes, KWIM?

It was lost years ago.

You can say you are "THE" NCA/CHEERSPORT/Jamfest Champion (in your division) but there is no "National Champion" anywhere in this sport (Rec, HS, All Star, not even College).

Worlds is the closest you can get to truly national level competition.
