I have a question for you Super Seniors out there. YES, I am going to college as well as considering cheering again, but I was wondering how you guys balanced it. I would be a freshmen, so I'm wondering would it be hard to cheer and still make new friends, keep up with work, etc.? Any input is appreciated.

I'm doing the same thing, I'm staying with my gym and doing an open team my freshman year of college. I think its just important not to get too caught up in the "college lifestyle" and make sure you set enough time for everything, not spend too much time at the gym and not with your friends or, spending most of your time outside of the gym instead of keeping up your skills, ya know? Just try and balance out your time and if you feel like your falling behind on your work, take extra time in the morning or before practice starts to study because that's more important than anything. It'll be my first year too, but this is just what I plan on doing.

I have not been in the situation, however, if you are able to and it is close enough to school that your school won't suffer (remember you have mid-terms and finals and college professors are not as leinent on make up testing), then go for it.

On Open teams, they typically have more awareness of the life of a college student, but as a Super Senior, you just have to remember that there may be away competitions and so on that could interfere w/ this stuff.

Good Luck in ANY Decision!

I'm also super senior-ing this year! I had a friend super senior on my team last year and she only missed one practice all year. I hope I get that lucky this year whilst also maintaining my average and being able to spend time with my friends. She told me just to make sure to study during those small periods of time on the train, before practice and in between classes, because it makes all the difference

Thank you everyone for your input. And is it weird that I almost feel like it'll be easier to cheer in college because I will have more time?

I super-seniored last year. It was honestly the best decision I have ever made. Not only did I have the chance to cheer my 15th year, I got to be the first ever program captain and I even got to coach! I had an extremely busy college schedule, at first it is a little much but after a few weeks, I did have time for a social life surprisingly, and ended up keeping my work pace going, and even held a part time job. Hope everything works out for you :)

Cheering for your university can be just as demanding as cheering all star, if not more, and plenty of people do it. I cheered for SHU and it kept me very very busy. If you manage your time well and stay caught up on your school work, you should be fine.

I am super-senioring this season as well this year. It took me a long time to make the decision but eventually I decided I had nothing to lose. The college I am going to (UW-Madison) is only about 25 minutes away from my gym. Hopefully I'll be able to manage everything. I even got lucky and our competition schedule doesn't conflict with any football games that I already had season tickets to! For a while I told myself I shouldn't do it and I should just move on but eventually I realized how much I loved cheer and I just couldn't justify wasting my last eligible season.

i honestly loved super senioring and because of of late birthday i was able to be a sophomore in college and still be on a regular senior team. i wouldnt of changed it for anything i also worked full time. it was difficult but worth it.

SO. FREAKING. LUCKY. I love you though! The way my birthday falls I could've been a high school senior this past year if I had stayed in California but I was a junior and if I want to cheer next year I'd have to do an open team or college team.
