He didn't ask me what I thought.....he asked if we were SURE it's in PA. Nobody knows but CSP so it is still speculative at this point. LMAO at being a squirrel.
I just wanted to bring some hilarity into what is SURE to be a drama-filled situation.. :D

I will say though, as far as I know, has ANY location they've opened closed? I went online, and from the looks of it, they're all still there..

It was hilarious, don't get me wrong! LOL

We had a Mt Airy location that isn't open anymore. Everybody else is still going strong!

That was the only one I didn't see..so 1 out of what, 8? 1/8 is better than most could dream.

But I have to ask the public: Would you rather they use gyms closer to where their athletes are coming from, or just expand their one gym into a MEGA gym? Because even their two main gyms (Raleigh and KVegas) look tiny in video, although maybe that's that one main room. I don't know how much bigger they are..

Just kind of playing devil's advocate here, but "exposing themselves" as what and to whom? It's no secret which of us don't care for CSP's business practices. There's nothing to expose. And I think most people who regularly post about it are hardly concerned with the people who know her. Second, that's a two way street - those gyms she gets athletes from also regularly get athletes from CEA who say the opposite.

That being said, I don't actually know that this bothers me that much. One, because I know many people reeeeally don't want to know this, but cheer is a business. Do you get mad when a new store opens near you? If she thinks she can do well in a new location, why shouldn't she? And I hate to break it to everyone, but everyone who owns a business has the goal of getting customers from other businesses - its how business works.

Lastly, I really don't think it's a big deal. I'd say more often than not we've seen that putting your "Big Name Gym" sign on the front of your building in a new location doesn't mean a hill of beans towards the success of the teams. I've seen LOTS of big names buy out new locations only to see them either sell them back a year later, close them, or just even to see them not be successful at all. It's very rare for multiple locations to have equal success.

Sorry, I accidentally deleted the words after "exposing themselves"... there should have been a "as simply CSP haters"... what I get for typing on a Droid. There are many on here who tear her down for everything she does. Sometimes, it seems like she could take her sequin-clad self to a soup kitchen and serve people, and she would get accused of self promotion or being disingenuous.

As far as the kids leaving CEA, I have been here 5 years, and have not really seen much atrophy of members here. Not to other gyms, at least. We have kids that burn out and start other sports, we have some who just want to be "normal" teenagers/kids and go home, but I have never noticed losing a lot of kids. And i can only think of one who left with a beef with CSP, but she honestly had a beef with anyone who has a pulse, from what I could tell. The only girls I remember leaving to go somewhere else had moved, but maybe we just don't see them all.

I completely agree about the business side of it. Why not try new cities? She really dose have a vision of what the cheer world could be, and wants to spread it out, I say good for her! As far as Charlotte is concerned, good grief people, it is the largest city in NC. At 3/4 of a million people, it can handle 2 big gyms.

To those CSP haters: Pardon me for this sounding harsh, but: If you don't want to lose athletes, put out a better product for your kids.... make it something they WANT. Then, no recruiting is required, no one gets "stolen" by a gym, they just leave and go where they want to be. Be what they WANT, be what they LOVE about cheer.

Kernersville is small.......like 8,000 sq feet. Raleigh is small too but I don't know how big their facility is. Salem small. Sanford small. Lake Norman rents space out of gymnastics facility so they have 1 full spring floor. I'm wondering if all our square footage from all our locations were added together if it would equal the 1 big building at Ray's or CA?

The ones I was talking about that closed weren't CEA, just other big name gyms. But even if they have a million locations, their successful teams are really concentrated in 2 or 3 of them aren't they? (I'm genuinely asking - I'll admit, I'm no CEA expert. I only know their biggest name teams).

I know most gyms that open a million locations don't generally see the success at the majority of them that they see at their "flagship" location. And I think distance plays a huge role in this - it seems when it's multiple locations within 2 hours or so, they're all fine. It's when they start branching out far enough that they are not sharing coaches, able to cross over team members, etc. that I start to notice that the name is not enough. They generally need the people.

Now I'll just sit and watch and see where this new location actually is. Because my knowledge of Pittsburgh cheer is absolutely zero. I certainly didn't know there was drama! :enjoyshow:

The Kvegas gym is two sided, but small. One side is basically competition floor sized (walls right at the edges of the mat on 3 sides), the other is roughly half that size with a tumble track and some tumbling barrels, wedge mats, etc... Both have viewing balcony for all those obnoxious cheer parents ;)

I don't think I've ever hidden my views on here so I have no problem with the supposed "outting" that was spoke of. As for a coach saying that they believe they could do well in Pittsburgh: what exactly would be the basis for that other than the fact it's a city highly populated with Allstar talent so opening a program there...with a known coach would most likely yield business from other programs...otherwise why make an attempt at a new location hundreds of miles from your state of origin? It can be twisted and turned 100 different ways to make it look how you want it to, but at the end of it all a program in Pittsburgh would be made with the intent of taking talent from other locations. I can see the case made for Charlotte based on the idea athletes were already commuting, though I still stand by I don't think the intent of that gym was nearly as harmless as that. How many athletes are commuting from Pittsburgh to North Carolina to where that gym is needed? A single coach moving back to the city isn't a valid reason for opening a gym with knowing Courtney's business smarts.

So you're right the location does stand a chance at being successful from a business standpoint. But as I stated in the original comment I made: if those are the means she is willing to stoop to in order to make another buck then I have absolutely no respect for her or her program.

I chose to make family movie night... Fired Up! And randomly pop back into this thread to entertain myself.

"That move is prohibidado!"

So, are you saying you know for a fact that this new gym of our's will be opening in PA? Not snarky at all. I'm genuinely asking.

That makes more sense! :) I am probably in that category. But it's all gravy, because I'm just some mom a thousand miles away with a cp who is grown and done and an ex cp. So I don't think my "hating" matters.

And I totally agree - no matter where my "hate" takes me, I firmly believe if you make your own gym the best product it can be for your families, then no one can "steal" them. It's just like when a girl says someone "stole her man" and I'm like "Uh...no one stole him. You didn't own him. He left." (Now that's not to say whether he was great or a DB, but the same could be said for lots of cheer families - I'd imagine some gym owners wish CSP would come steal some of them...) but really, you can't steal people.

There are a lot of things that I don't love about CSP, but I really don't care if she opens a gym in every city in America. If she can do it, good for her.

Matty: I guess we should all just pee on the ground in our cities and "mark it" for our gym? Ridiculous and sad. IF that is where the gym is headed, then I am sure it is a pretty sound business decision. I am sure she doesn't throw darts at a US map and say "where can i 'steal' athletes from and open a new gym?"

It is pretty obvious that you are going to have this response to whatever the gym does. If it helps you keep the edge, then more power to you. In business, it is called networking, and it is JUST BUSINESS. you bring in a contact from a new area and get convinced to expand. If they want to keep girls from running to a beloved coach, maybe they should find a way to retain what sounds like a wonderful coach themselves.

The concept of "you can't open here... gym (insert name here) is already open" is ridiculous. That traps kids who have to stay local into somewhere they may not be happy. Some will like the small gym "big fish, little pond" kind of feel, some may love the absolute exhilaration of walking onto an all day, all CEA showcase like X-Evolution and think that the big gym is the way to go. Kind of like picking a school for college... but limiting choices so there is no competition is weak and selfish, IMHO

AMEN to the bolded. This program had cut ties with this coach before she was ever approached about a possible opportunity in NC. Short sighted would be 1 of many words I would use about that situation!!! Not all of them would be appropriate on a family message board.
