I am kind of hoping the new gym is in High Point or Archdale.... it would help the gas bills a lot.

Explain to me how Fame having a gym in NY is any different than CEA opening one in PA (if that is where this is all about... can;t believe we are really arguing about a theoretical gym here :))

Well, we all know I'm obsessed with Fame (well, if you didn't know, you do now). And NOT a fan of CEA. And even I am wondering this.

This hypothetical gym in Pittsburgh is the same thing. I know for sure the woman that opened Fame NY came from another program in Rochester, so I'd say it's a safe bet she intended to have some of her same athletes (not steal them...but surely she intended for them to leave the prior program she was with and go with her?)

I didn't mind it then either. It's just makes good sense financially.

kristenthegreat loooooooove the DQ analogy. :p (or maybe I just love DQ, I'm not sure. But it seemed like a good analogy...)

I'll throw it out there. If CSP wants to buy my gym, she can do it. It's an opportunity, and one that many people would love to take. Putting the CEA name on the front door is going to increase my business, and they are doing something in NC that is working. Whatever it is, I would want that too. Like Just-A-Mom said, if I am a struggling gym in PA (NOT saying this is the case-I have zero info about any of this) and need to get someone in so I don't have to close my doors, I'm going to do it.

Taking the info from this thread, I'm gathering and assuming this. THIS IS A COMPLETE ASSUMPTION. I am seriously just dreaming up how this went, and what I'm thinking probably happened (not saying this is reality). Coach X was released from a gym and went to CEA. She tells Courtney "hey, there are a lot of problems in PA cheer, and I really wish I could go back and help all those kids I used to coach and love." She knows the CEA rules, the way they do things, and she is a great coach. She does not have a gym to return to in PA, because she was "released". She thinks she can put a better product out there than what they currently have. CSP thinks "well, I trust her with my product, she knows how I want things done, and my name would probably help her get started back home." An ideal situation for CSP, CEA, and this coach is born.
Boo hoo all you want, but I think it's kinda awesome.

And everyone gets a puppy, and gets showered with rainbow glitter? Do you really think it was that sweet? haha

Amen! There is no playing the innocent role of just offering another option when there are already 10+ other options in the same area both big and small.

Once again (in response to the other posts) sugar coat it how you see fit the prospect of a location in this city lacks any and all moral value, and for that I will continue to have my issues whether others agree or disagree.

As for the coach being mentioned and the idea of the other program being short sighted. From what I have seen...she more than earned her unwelcome.
As a disinterested observer... Can I ask why it's immoral in "this city?" What's so cheer fabulous about Pittsburgh (aside from me being born there ;) ) that its immoral to open there versus Raleigh, Sanford, Charlotte, Richmond? Etc etc.

Sorry I posted my Fame NY response before I saw FamousMatty 's response. Matty, come on. You know she came from another program (NE) and that MANY people left to go with her. I agree with you that Rochester is not overflowing with allstar gyms, but there certainly was some bad blood with NE when all this went down. Regardless of who approached who (because I actually doubt CSP is just randomly gym shopping in PA, so I'd bet she also was approached and not the other way around), it seems awfully similar to what has been described here.

ETA: I'm not 100% sure when she left in relation to when Fame NY opened. I just know she was with NE first. And it did not seem pleasant at all on Facebook when everything happened.

No reason to think it was anything but that sweet. "Rumors of Courtney Pope's evil nature have been greatly exaggerated". Maybe throw in some homesickness (Picks-burgh to NC is not a seamless transition), and I can see it being just like that. Of course, I know the people involved... which is sometimes uncommon to these discussions.

It's not the city as much as it is the "circumstances" that surround it. So I'll just leave it at that until an official statement is made. I know for a fact though that Pittsburgh is an option and that alone is enough for me.

I think the owners of CEA are very smart people. CEA is not going to open a gym in the middle of no where, Who would? They are going to open a gym near people who are already cheering. As a result, many people will leave just because it's CEA. You are in denial if you think they don't want athletes from other gyms to come to their gym. That's the whole point of opening a gym near another gym. I wouldn't call it stealing athletes, but I do understand people who think it's bad ethics. This is how businesses work. It's all about competition. How many times have you seen a McDonalds next to a Burger King, next to a Checkers, next to a Chik-fil-A?

I think people keep forgetting that Cheer is a business.

In response to programs in Pittsburgh.....there are quite a few programs there!!! Successful programs at that!

And the FAME NY post, I remember all this too well getting information from biased people but its crazy how drama just gets stirred up out of nowhere when communication is lacking.

I think plans have not been revealed about the new location completely because of mixed reactions like this and people on here already speculating...patience is a virtue.

For real. Despite the fact that we point it out daily.

But that's true with all businesses. I used to work at Zales (the jewelry store) and at least once a day a customer would say to me "Why can't you cut me a deal? All this place cares about it making money!" Um, you're right sir. You caught us. We're not "Zales, the non-profit diamond organization."

Businesses are in business to make money. I don't know why that upsets people so much. Why do you go to work? To make money. If you like your job, love what you do, get to help people, etc., that's all gravy. You can't do any of that if you don't make any money!

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!! I Cannot believe I have spent an hour of my life going thru this thread!!!! I could have read a book, watched some tv, went out an played in the ice storm coming over the Queen City. or something......
