I always wear glasses for cheer because I can't see. I was wondering if anybody wears glasses and if I should stick to glasses or try contacts. I don't want my glasses to break because I have gotten hit in the face while stunting and I am afraid my glasses will break since she already knocked them off my face twice. Any advice would be nice! :)

Definitely switch to contacts! It makes it so much easier! I cheered with glasses until my junior year (couldn't get the stupid contacts in my eyes) and after knocking the lenses out 1 too many times I was ged up. Plus it makes it easier to see as my contacts are a higher prescription than my glasses.

It depends how bad your eyes are! I used to wear my glasses for practice and contacts for comps because I was young and my mom didn't want me to wear contacts all the time. But I switched over to contacts all the time and I liked it - no more worrying about them flying off when I tumble or stunt. I mean once my base partner poked me in the eye gripping for a basket and my contact came out, but there are so many less issues IMO. But if I did nothing and just took them out I probably wouldn't be able to tell who was who if I tried so formations might be sketchy. If you're comfortable touching your eyes I would recommend contacts but if your eyes are pretty good you can probably just take your glasses off and be fine.

Yeah, when I take my glasses off it's very blurry because I'm far sighted and near sighted but I don't want my contacts to come out at cheering practice because I wouldn't be able to find them.

I wear glasses and contacts, but if I wear glasses to practice I don't wear anything during practice. I take them out when I get there. I'm near-sighted so I can see fine on the mat when we practice, but I squint when I walk into the gym and can't see who is standing on the mat, ha. I'm like "who is waving to me?!"

But I wear contacts to competition.

Contacts shouldn't come out during practice! I have dry eyes naturally plus I'm on a medicine that makes the problem worse, so my situation isn't the norm! They shouldn't fall out. If you're worried about it, you can always keep a contact lense case in your bag with another set, so if you lose one you can just replace it! You shouldn't need it but its good to be prepared, especially if you're worried

What is the difference between hard and soft lenses. Which is more comfortable?

Soft, and Acuvue Oasys are by far the most comfortable I have ever worn! I read above that you are both near and far sighted. Your eye doctor can check and see if you are a candidate for monovision. A large percentage of people can wear one contact for distance on their dominant eye and one for close up/reading in the other, the brain just adjusts. I only wear one contact in my right eye for distance and I don't need a contact in the left eye for close up/reading. I love it but, you do give up just a bit of sharpness in your vision to go that route. Best of luck!

Cp wore glasses but wouldn't wear them to compete or practice in from age 6 to about 10. We decided to try contacts because of tumbling actually. She (for the life of her) would not spot a tuck. It was a head throwing flip over. After about 6 months of it, it dawned on me that maybe she couldn't spot it because she couldn't see anything to spot!

Mom of the year right here.

She was so frustrated that she agreed to try contacts even though she'd been against the idea of touching her eye :)

Got them. Spotted it two weeks later. She sets that thing in the rafters now. The best comment was her, "hey you know I can actually see the coaches at the front of the mat! They give cues and stuff."

Yeah baby, they've been doing that for four years!

That's good. :)
I would 100 percent go for contacts but I am against touching my eyes. How did she get over it? I would most likely get daily contact lenses. If I was to get contact lenses, would you sleep with them on or would u throw them away at night and then wake up and put them on? (I'm full of questions!)

I have contacts and I have the kind you wear during the day, and take out at night. They're Acueve I think. I use the same pair for around two weeks. There are certain brands that you can wear continuously, but I'm not sure of any off the top of my head. It can be a little scary at first to touch your eye, but after a while, you get used to it. :) If you think contacts would be good, talk to your parents. Maybe they can set up an eye appointment for you. Good luck!!

you'd take them out at night and throw them away. i have fallen asleep with them in before and it just feels weird when you wake up but nothing happens. you really dont have to touch your eye all that much. all you do (and they'll show you) is put the contact on your finger, and you just tap your eye, or get close enough that the contacts hits your eye (so not necessarily touching your eye). doesnt hurt at all :)
