I haven't yet seen a female olympic athlete compete in a strapless-bra... Therefore I must agree that a sturdy sports-bra is vital.
Right now my gym is creating new uniforms and we have decided against cutouts of any kind. Out of 250 athletes, everyone deserves to feel comfortable during competition.

I agree that it's not a necessity and there's no reason why the uniform shouldn't have a back however (I know a routine, especially L5, is very athletic/strenuous etc) they do only have to compete in the uniform for 10 or minutes at each comp.
It's not as if its a 3 hour practice or something.

A sprinter only runs for a matter of seconds....yet they still wear proper undergarments

The mesh fading with the black part on the shorts blends in in this picture, making me think that the gold slash thing is the start of the shorts, maybe a better picture will make the black more definite but I like it other than that!

I'm just confused why the damage to breast tissue is any worse than the damage we put our bodies through everyday for the sport in general.... My thing is the Triple X uniform is adorable from the front and back and if I was on the team i'd do anything I could to find a comfortable bra to wear that uniform correctly.

Well when you're 60 and your knees are destroyed, at least your boobs won't be down to your waist.

But why are we quick to throw a brace on any body part that remotely hurts for support yet heaven forbid we wear uniforms you can wear a sports bra with

Because when you're a cheerleader it's a requirement to do the physical parts that damage bodies. It's definitely NOT required to wear something silly. It's not even helpful - last score sheet I saw had nothing about extra points for crazy, backless tops.

Okay. With the halter bra that was posted, to me it looks like a bathing suit top. And that is not something I would be comfortable competing in. As someone with a D cup, wearing a supportive sports bra is CRUCIAL for me. I like the XXX uniform but there is no way I could compete with it. I can't throw on any old Nike sports bra and call it good. I'm one of the lucky ones that needs underwires and clasps in my sports bra, and I highly doubt any halter bra or one shouldered bra would give the support I need. Do I wish they could? Heck yes. But that won't happen.
And about the damage we do to our bodies vs the damage we do to our chests... I'm sure we all know at least one athlete who has stopped cheering because of injury and we probably know many who have needed physical therapy or have taken a week or two off because of injury. And look at any cheer team and I can guarantee at least 3 athletes wear braces so weaker joints can get support. Why are we not giving our chests the same treatment?

reminds me of the woodward exhibition team unis... well i hope that there is a black rim above the gold for the start of the shorts, and i hope that black rim takes over the whole back of those shorts. shiny space suit looking shorts aren't cute, no matter what size your tush is.

i like the top half of it, though.

THIS. See this is iffy for me, being a sprinter myself, because not really. I get totally where you're coming from but it's very untrue. There is no reason why I should have to wear a crop top and briefs to run. The shorts (they are basically underwear) are super short and quite uncomfortable quite frankly, and I don't see why I should have to wear them - but it's our team uniform. And the crop tops we wear often aren't as supportive as they look.

There's actually a really big debate going on about female sprinters and what the "norm" is to wear to compete, especially in colder climates. But that is a whole different topic for a whole different thread.

Every sport has its issues I guess.

Yeah but I'm referring to a sports bra not what you wear on the bottom

The chest isn't supported completely either. No problem for me since in president of the itty bitty titty committee but my team crop top I compete in is the thinnest piece of material ever.
I had to go out of my way to buy a sports bra that was either gold or maroon to match the colors of the top and that wouldn't show out from underneath because my coach didn't want this.

Why couldn't they have provided us with a sturdier top so I didn't have to buy a special bra?

Different yet similar situation.

Id also note that it is probably much less of an issue in the higher levels of athletics, they probably have excellent quality and supportive tops.
I compete at a regional level so the club simply cannot afford that (the parents/athletes do not pay).
