Students get automatic entry with ID so thats how I got in. Over half of my class is doing it together and we've been training and doing smaller races like 10Ks and 10 milers. I know I'll be fine, but it is my first half, though hopefully not my last and I am planning on doing the Disney World marathon next year. 3 months ago I couldn't even run a mile and now I'm up to 8, so I'm on my way!

Ahh that's amazing! Wait, is that students at your school or ANY students? It wasn't even on my radar until this campaign that I did all of January. Races that are more than just a race (like at Disney!) are my favorite because you don't even feel like you've gone that far with so much around you to look at. I hope you love it and GOOD LUCK! I did my first half 4 weeks ago and I am hooked so get ready to want to run thousands more!!

We can't treat the roads here properly either. I hear that from people in the South a lot, but my street hasn't been salted or plowed in weeks. We've probably gotten a total of 14 inches of snow since the last time they salted/plowed. Many years ago this may have been true, but with city budgets the way they are these days I don't think most roads are treated properly, North or south. :(

Chicago is especially pathetic at this. It seems like the southern States are actually BETTER at dealing with snow and ice now! They seem to at least realize it's dangerous to drive on, whereas up here they're like "you should be used to this" (there is no way to get "used to" driving on ice!). Not a good place to cut the budget.

We sold our car, and it's cold. But good lord it's nice not to deal with these roads and parking here!

It still shocks me that we don't use salt in Texas when the roads get icey or snowed on, we use sand...

They use both up here it depends on how bad the roads are or where you are

The roads never get too bad down here, although around Christmas time this year we got about 2 inches, and alottt of ice, which equals bad driving Texans..lol we dont know how to drive in ice :p

Salt is reeeeeeally bad for cars. It eats them. They probably don't use it because it's Texas and they know it'll just melt in a day or so anyway - so no reason to ruin the cars. Ours could go 6 months without it warming up enough to fully melt, so chemical intervention is necessary.

I'm gonna sadly agree about the salt eating cars. Thats why the cars up here are all rusty underneath. It stinks soo bad. My car just got the alternator replaced and a usual 1 hour job took 3.5 due to the rusty bolts and things. Soooo annoying.

a friend of mine lives in northern ontario and they have 6 feet of snow and have been basically cut off from all resources for a week now.. they're starting to run out of gas and food!

My boyfriend bought a car from his neighbor and it turned off on him while he was driving.. Thankfully he had been stopped at a red light and was just going as it stopped. It's in the shop and he won't be able to get it till Sunday because they close at 5.. The guy that originally had the car (1997 Camry) put no work into it except for oil changes.
