Another note from yesterday's comp.. Kind of disturbed me.

A mom from Palm Beach Lightning had a daughter crying because they didn't win. My daughter and me were walking by and she loudly says look at her..look at those new NCA jackets they are ugly, see her jacket is so ugly and cheap be glad you didn't win.

THIS. This is what kills me about the youth and parents today. So many parents do not know how to teach their child to lose gracefully, they don't know how to teach their child it is OK to lose.
They need to understand and take the lesson from losing; even when you do your best, sometimes, just sometimes that's not enough, it's a learning experience, it gives you motivation to work harder. When parents don't do this, don't teach children to learn from losing, or lose gracefully, that's when children start to feel entitled and start acting like selfish brats (that is seen too often in ALL sports today, not just cheer)

So sorry you and your daughter had to witness this, I hope your daughter is truly able to enjoy her win and her jacket!

I hate the "we have gone to worlds 4 times" used as advertisement for gyms. Yeah, and you never once made it out of prelims/landed in like 50th place. Parents and even some cheerleaders don't realize it.... They hear "worlds" and don't bother to do their research and find out how they actually did.

Oh goodness, that is exactly what another local gym is going to advertise. This is their first Worlds bid (at-large) and they will most definitely use it in their advertising when they have tryouts. And there will be so many parents and cheerleaders that will have no clue as to how the bid process actually works.

I am probably the only one getting annoyed by all the people saying panthers just lost worlds ugh. It is just as stupid as sayin SE just won worlds. Worlds is 2 months away.let them compete first please.

Heck- I don't think anybody even thought SE was going to win worlds last year anyway lol.

My one request- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE increase (and more strictly enforce) the penalty for incomplete tumbling. And balled up tumbling. Are we surprised by the amount of injuries to legs?

I wanted her to know I heard her and it was kind of rude as my daughter is now feeling different about the jacket she just earned.

So I turned to her and said yes you are right they aren't as nice as the old ones..

Then she basically turns this in to well we got this one last year and it's so nice and the sleeves are better and the jacket is better blah blah blah and like gloating about like rubbing it our face ...like this conversation was no longer to her kid. It was to me, and she was gloating about it I literally thought she was drunk ...

I wanted to be like look lady we weren't even the team that beat you. My daughter is in a completely different level that didn't go against y'all. Yes say the jackets are ugly or whatever you want but I'm sorry I don't care that you got a better one last year.

Kris10boo this sounds definitely like sour grapes and sore loser mentality...what this mom should have said is to be happy for the chance to compete and work harder next year... This mother's approach of tearing down the winner to console her daughter is not the best,,,I was just wondering, will this daughter refuse a NCA jacket next year because it does not measure up to last year standards.... Hmmm!

Exactly. If that jacket were on her back, she'd think it was the most beautiful thing ever created.

Not NCA related - just made me think of it - a couple of years ago we had a run in with a parent from their gym at a restaurant after a comp - If I told you the whole story you literally would not believe it lol but in the end the other parents that were sitting around us also from that gym, ending up taking our side and apologizing profusely to us - we were not used to having confrontations with other gyms parents

I am sorry to digress from the topic, you are so correct,,, in another conversation in Cheer Newbie, I mentioned how much my daughter and I hated the new design of the NCA jacket, but my daughter since winning her jacket has only taken it off once and that was to take a shower,,, so this just prove that the jacket is just symbol and really it is a representation of high accomplishment in a sport... Right now, many of us are reacting to the newness of something different... I likened this to when in 2000 the Olympic commitee decided to change the design of the metals and now, most people do not remember the backlash and the ugly statements about those metals,,,additionally, I do not remember hearing about a single athlete tossing their metals away in disgust....Lol, furthermore, walking around the Convention Center yesterday, I did not see a single jacket cast away in the garbage bins, but I did see a lot of crying cheerleaders wishing they had one of those ugly and cheap jackets:p:D..

One negative note about NCA (adding on to what @Kris10boo said)
- I know you are upset about the loss, but stop degrading the winning team. I'm still seeing things like:
"____ team should have won"
"____ team was robbed"
"_____ team didn't even compare to _____"
"We had a higher raw score anyway"
"The crowd didn't even like ____" (still laughing at this tweet)
all over twitter. Let the winning team have their moment and be happy for what they worked for. No one worked harder than anyone else. If you're on a big name team and start tweeting or retweeting things like that, then all of your little fans will join in because they think it's acceptable.

I don't know if I'm being unfair...but am I the only one who it bothers a bit that teams in 40th place received bids to worlds? I understand that they are at large or partial and defiantly respect that they worked extremely hard to get there

There really needs to be a minimum score requirement or something to stop Worlds from becoming so watered down. We all know that there are other comps that are closer to Worlds that give even the last place team a bid. What kind of accomplishment is it to consistently go to Worlds and never have a shot at making the finals? That's just a trip to Disney!
