Mackenzie is a beautiful child and so full of talent. I can't believe her mother allows her to be compared to her sister. I hope it's just for the show and that it's because we only see small parts of what has actually happened or been said. I saw a #mackenzieface on Twitter as well.

What kind of freaks me out is that there are teachers like Abby that treat kids the way she does. She kind of remind me of Bela Karolyi, minus the hitting. He would often berate his gymnasts and pit them against each other to motivate them (according to his gymnasts and assistants; I just finished reading Little Girls in Pretty Boxes).
But these moms r getting paid and probably the kids too. So the $ out weighs how they r treated I guess. We as caring moms would leave ASAP if that happened to our kids!

Maddie has always been my favorite while everyone loves Chloe.

But Kalani is my absolute favorite and such a beautiful dancer to me. I loved her on the ultimate dance competition!

I think the moms are caught between 2 places; ALDC is the only studio in Pittsburgh with an instructor as well-connected as Abby is. And those kids aren't dancing for fun, they plan to make to make a career out of it. It's hard because they hate seeing their kids berated and mistreated, but they know that the girls would be heartbroken if their moms were to pull them out of that studio. Abby can't be the only teacher in the dance world with tons of connections, but she is probably the only one in her area.

Kalani is stunning!! Such a wonderful dancer, too. She won Junior dancer of the year last year at The Dance Awards (I would compare it to like a NCA/Worlds of competitive dance). Her studio is Club Dance and all of them are so, so talented.

This. :shimmy:

I don't call the moms on DM crazy...I call them trashy. Every last one of them with their potty mouths and offensive talk. I don't care if you're black, white, Asian, Indian or whatever, behavior like what these moms display is nothing short of trashy and classless. As a matter of fact, the ONLY mom that has any class whatsoever on DM is Holly. She is the best role model for her baby girl.

Abby on the other hand is straight up crazy and should not be allowed to work with children...ever!!! Verbally abusive is putting it mildly.

I agree to an extent but here is the rub. Holly has sold her kid out and let her be mistreated just as much as the other moms - she is just polite about and doesn't backstab the other moms. That said allowing your child to be continually verbally abused (because proper correction does not have to involve insults like Abby does) is not teaching your daughter to stand up for herself when someone continually degrades her. If this is just for the drama and show of it all then she is teaching well it is okay to be treated like that for $$$ or fame >>>> not a role model.

I definitely agree that she is making poor choices for Nia. But she's still the only person on that show that conducts herself with class.

I totally agree with that she is certainly more dignified. I think sometimes that is why it upsets me so much that she puts up with this. She is a smart educated woman that clearly cares for her daughter. What type of contract or money or reasoning would make this okay? How did she get herself and daughter mixed up in this and then stay? Perhaps it is because I can see Holly's way of handling the drama similar enough to mine that the fact that she is on the show and puts up with it all bothers me most of all.

I know holly obviously isn't making the best choices for Nia, but I'm pretty sure they're stuck in a contract. You can see her trying to protect Nia and trying to support her when she has little talks with her before she dances, she tries to talk about nia's improvement and boost her up instead of comparing her like Abby does. I think nia has a good head on her too.

I may be way off base on this, but I am under the impression that when it first started, it wasn't bad. I believe that everyone is contractually bound to continue to a certain point, and the show gets worse and worse as it goes on (meaning behavior wise). That being said, I don't think you could pay me enough to allow my child to be mistreated on TV, but I'm not in their shoes and don't know what kind of financial obligation they would have to just walk away. I wonder if that's the deal with Kelly?

One of CPs old cheer coaches takes her daughter there and I have been told she coaches tumbling there as well. I know she absolutely loves it and she was by far a favorite coach in cheer because she was so sweet to the girls and knew what she was doing. So it makes me wonder how much they have all sold out just for TV.

I think DM is just a perfect example of how fame just got to everyones, especially Abbys, head. Correct me if I'm wrong but all of the original girls from Season 1 (Maddie, Mackenzie, Nia, Brooke, Paige and Chloe) have been at ALDC since they were in nappies. For the majority of them that was about 7/8 years. Now skip forward 3 short years later and half of that team now doesn't dance at ALDC thanks to Abby - or rather the Abby that her fans/lifetime want her to be.

I fully believe that if the show hadn't happened then those girls would still be dancing there and they would all love it.
Fame and ego is just horrible.

I think when the show first started it wasn't bad. I've read awhile back (so the details are hazy) that this show was shopped around at a lot of different studios, which all passed. Abby Lee/Reign Dance Productions was either on the verge of filing for bankruptcy or had already filed....so Abby Lee jumped at the chance to make money and save the studio.

I think that Holly was asked to be involved to help diversify the cast (in more ways than one). I don't think she expected the show to turn into what it turned into (hence her having to step down from job).

Initially I remember reading that they weren't getting paid for the show. Then it turned into the kids were having money put into a trust.

I think the contract issue is partially why Kelly is suing Abby for 5 million. She claims that she hasn't gotten paid since the fight took place...in November (I think).

I keep seeing that their contracts will be up after this season, so it will be interesting to see who continues. I think that Melissa, Jill and probably Holly will continue.

I really wish Holly would leave it alone and put Nia in all star cheer.

They should bring Asia and her mom with them. BTW I love this clip, Anthony's mom made me crack up:
