All-Star Angel Rice Moving To Cali Smoed For 2014-2015 Season

For some reason, I just keep thinking about that girl who filled in for Jenee for the later half of the season. Like "Hey thanks for winning NCA and Worlds with us, but you're being put back on Snipers next season."

I realize that Angel isn't a flyer, but wasn't there a rumor that Jenee is moving back to Cali?

Pretty sure that Payton is staying as a flyer on Smoed. She may do both Smoed and Snipers again though since I think she's fairly young. She was great out there, I couldn't tell the difference between her and Jenee out there honestly. As long as she works hard for her spot, and stays in the air next summer when they practice she should be fine.

Also I don't think they are actively recruiting girls just the guys. There just may not be enough boys in their program currently since all four of their SMOED boys have graduated. I know Kyle is coming back for his last year but that still leaves three spots.

Unpopular opinion here, but i prefer payton over jenee as a flier. Jenee's weakness has always been her lack of flexibility. She has improved a lot; however, i feel that is doesn't look as good when the rest of the fliers have a near needle compare to a dorito scorpion. A good example is lady bullet's point flier. Im obviously not their coach, but that just my opinion, sorrynotsorry.

I wonder if that girl who was on it and then got moved down to Snipers (?) in one of the first Cheerleaders episodes this season will make it again. I hope so, I'd like to see her get another chance.

I remember reading on here that she was on aces this past season too. But I could be wrong. ( I can't even remember the girl's name)

I know of another boy that has received an "invite" to join SMOED next season not mentioned here. The email he received requested that he not tell anyone prior to tryouts. I imagine everyone's email stated the same thing. The coaches were probably trying to keep it under wraps out of respect for the kids in their gym so that everyone "felt" like they all had the same chances at tryouts. As we all know, things change and the coaches are going to do the best thing for their teams. If someone has been invited and doesn't work out, they will be replaced. Cali has a very strong coaching style and sometimes this can be an "issue" for new athletes. If I was a parent at that gym, it would bother me that they were already filling spots from outside the gym. That being said, coaches already have an idea of the teams and athletes needed to fill teams PRIOR to tryouts. Tryouts are usually needed to roundout the last athletes. Coaches know the capabilities of their athletes. They know in all probability that athletes are not gonna get "brand new" skills right before tryouts and if they do, they are not guaranteed that the new skill will be competition ready.

This. I was just going to say something along the same lines.

I've been thinking the same thing since watching her at NCA!

all i know is if i were on a lower team at cali and was trying out for smoed, i would be devastated to hear that people already have spots before tryouts.

Tryouts are really a year long process, not one or two days. I'm sure the coaches already know who they want on smoed, tryouts aren't going to surprise them...

I don't know if I agree with that. Hand picking a bunch of superstar individuals doesn't necessarily make a superstar team. One thing about people willing to uproot their entire life for their one goal...is that it's their one goal...individually. And sometimes the big fish in one pond may not enjoy being one of many big fish in another pond. I mean heaven forbid someone on your team has more IG followers! Oh, the horror!

To use a basketball reference (after all I live in the Tobacco Road of ACC land).... Back when I paid more attention, UNC chapel hill always had a few big names on their team that overshadowed the others. Duke, while it had names you recognized, weren't as "cheerlebrity" as the ones from UNC were. I generally saw the trend that Duke played better as a team than Carolina ever did because too many of those cheerlebrity type basketball players were looking for the individual spotlight and the espn stats. It didn't seem to work as well for the teamwork aspect of the game. Duke beat them on teamwork over talent on several occasions.

Props to smoed if they can bring in all this big name talent and personality and actually get them to function as team first and individual second. If the team continues to be assembled this way that will be the challenge. Only one person gets to be last pass or point flyer and if you've got two or three that have always been last pass or point flyer or whatever....

....somebody isn't going to be happy and that's the beginning of the end if they can't swallow their pride and be a team player.

Seriously? You don't think one of the best tumblers in all star cheer jumps ship from one of the top gyms in the country and defects to a rival gym....you don't see that as news worthy?

To be honest, I find it very interesting. I know I am going to enjoy seeing one of the tumblers who has impressed me countless times, compete with a team that I am familiar with due to their success and their web series. I am excited to see how her skills will be featured in Smoed choreo.

But..I am not interested in it because of "jumping ship and defecting" . The reasons why she chose to left at the end of her season don't interest me as much of the possibilities of what her next season will be like

It's not going to change my life in any way, shape, or form. That's not HATING on Smoed, that's just being honest. It goes for about 95% of you who aren't directly affiliated with Smoed or any of it's new team members.

Nah, Smoed is a very talented team, obviously. I just don't understand the phenomena of creating an entire thread about someone switching a gym. If that was me I wouldn't want an entire community of people who don't know me talking about me and my choices as if they did.
And I'm honestly on here because I feel bad for the girl. Being in the spotlight isn't as fun as people think it is. Even I was in the "spotlight" for a short amount of time and it was just plain creepy. People would take pictures of me sitting with my family at competitions and tweet them at me saying they spotted me with my parents. Have some courtesy? I can't imagine what it would be like to be on Smoed and have cheerleaders swarming you at all times.
I guess what I'm trying to say is yeah, you can cheer them on, that's great. But give them privacy and space too.
