This is an odd thing to be hung up on but in watching that video I can't stop watching technique. Yeah the skills are amazing but his feet NEVER come apart. Oh and the opposite leg bow and arrow?! Did he have a gymnastics background? Tumbles like a former gymnast.

I believe he might have done power tumbling at some point. Don't quote me on it..

Probably 3ish years ago there was a thread where everyone was joking around and were asking how to get to Tye Hill like it was an actual place. Everyone was just messing around kind of like when there was a thread made about the milk house burning down so worlds was canceled.

The Milkhouse burning down is a Fierceboard classic! Oh how I miss Worlds Fiercechat....

Tye Hill was amazing, but to me one of the originals was Matt McGrath. (I may have misspelled the mess out of his name sorry!) My second year cheering we went to Dallas in 2003 (I had a gymnastics bkground and started cheering at level 5). My coach said "watch this!" And it was Matt attempting a standing double!! He put his hands down and my teammates were like "he put his hands down!" I was like "HE TRIED A STANDING DOUBLE!!!" (I was the only one with a standing full haha). They thought it was easy or something. That will be a memory (one of my FAVORITES from CA and NCA) that I hope I remember for the rest of my life.

@BlueCat I'm not sure if this has been asked already: Will CA Charlotte field a L5 team? If so, which division? Is that part of the eventual plan for the gym?

Probably my favorite routine of all time. The energy in the arena that night was insane. I remember talking to my friend and saying "why is he wearing shorts?! That looks terrible with all the other boys in pants!" And then he threw a standing double on dead floor and I no longer cared about what he wore

yes yes yessss, plus Kevin Baron, they truly revolutionized tumbling. They were the first "cheerlebrities" I idolized for their SKILL.. not their popularity on social media or how pretty they were (although they are gorgeous, holla @ me). I met Lil B in 2008/9 and he was the coolest, most down to earth and humble guy despite his incredible talent.

Kevin Baron won me over in 2006 or 2007 when he waved to the crowd as he was walking back to the corner to tumble. Odyssey had a lot of tumbling........he had plenty of time.......it wasn't an arrogant thing at all.........Just waving to say "Hi thanks for coming and watching us." I remember thinking I hope 1 of my kids is cool enough 1 day to wave to the people on the way to the corner......hasn't happened yet. I now know, it'll never happen!!!

I miss the day's where kid's didn't count their follower's and people came to watch all these kids because they were skilled and personable.

Bye bye Big Red and Flea and Mackenzie S and Bucky and Betar........Those are some I haven't seen mentioned.

Out of curiosity, where is your dividing line between when a program's growth is healthy, and when it is "too big" for the industry?

We view ourselves as being good for the industry. (In fairness, I'm sure every gym owner thinks that of themselves.) We added 35 jobs to "the industry" in the last year alone and that is before we really start seriously hiring for Charlotte. We have over 100 employees now and for most of them, it is a full-time career situation with health benefits, retirement plans, and legitimate opportunities for advancement within the company. Most of our staff lead me to believe that they are in their dream job. They don't feel like they have a "Wal-Mart" type job at all.

We are not saints and we have our slip-ups from time to time, but ultimately I think that we treat other folks in the industry with respect and courtesy. We do what can to teach sportsmanship to our athletes and try to do it with an emphasis on positive reinforcement. We have been fortunate to have some success results-wise, but that is NOT the most important thing we do - not by a long shot.

Obviously, I am not remotely close to objective.

I want to preface all of this by saying that I was in no way trying to dig CA for their decision to expand. CA has been my dream gym my entire cheer career and I would still give my left foot to be a towel boy for Claw6 or to coach small tiny prep level 1 just because I have always dreamed of being a part of the program. (Speaking of, if you need a coach at any time I WILL transfer colleges and have a limb surgically removed in solidarity ;))

In fact I didn't mean in my statement that "CA Charlotte is bad for the industry". It was more meant as a general statement that I, honestly and completely, believe that the franchisement of the industry is a negative thing. There are various reasons I could list here but I don't want to write a novel so I'll keep it to the biggest one; though our focus on the boards and twitter is largely (and rightfully) on big name gyms and top contenders, the sport is actually comprised staggeringly by small gyms. Now obviously we as viewers like to the watch the best, so the top 10 is usually our concern, but the problem is that the top 10 and the money makers are also the largest concern of the governing bodies that be.

Now again I (and many others I'm sure) could wax poetic for hours about our problems with the various Wizards that run the industry behind the curtain, and I know that I for one (for the hay penny it's worth) have been very vocal about my problems with the USASF; and I know there are others that feel this way. But ultimately the point of my statement is that I don't honestly feel that the franchising of the industry will be helpful in the growth and recognition of our sport.

Also, I think it's important to mention that I totally understand why a gym would expand and that is natural business move to do so, and I in no way knock your decision to continue to try to offer what you feel to be the best possible product wherever you feel there is a market; I just feel that in 20 years we will as an industry look back and realize that, on the whole, the move of the industry to expand as it has was good for a chosen few, but bad for the overall expansion of the sport.

It is also important to mention that I am no where near objective either!

TLDR: When will CA Missouri be a thing?

So I'm not the greatest at Texas geography and after seeing tweets from people with"Houstonkat" in their profile, I decided to google maps it.

...and after I got over the shock that people regularly drive roughly four hours for cheer practice, it made me wonder: will Cheer Athletics be expanding to Houston? I feel like that'd be a natural fit as you already have athletes commuting in to Plano from that part of the state.
