My coach told me a story once:
Her team was competing and her teammatesband aid fell off. In Michigan doing full team splits is a thing (lol), and when she went down into her splits she Put the bandaid in her mouth to avoid a penalty from leaving it on the mat. Soooo gross but so funny

I just laughed out loud at both the full team split idea and the bandaid in the mouth

At CP's first big competition this year, one of the teams that went on (Tiny division) had a little girl throw a full on tantrum the entire time she was on the mat. You could tell something was off when the coach literally placed her in her spot, and as the entire team went on, she got worse just sitting in her spot screaming...finally her coach pulls her basically off and then promptly gets kicked in the face. It was hard not to laugh and feel horrible at the same time.

CP's first ever competition experience, we had a little girl who through a few fits right before so she sorta missed the practices before competition. She was there, but not participating, so my CP and her bff marked the stunt, since this child was flying. Well they get onto the floor and I'm freaking out thinking CP is going to freak out (since she had done 2 dance recitals and bravely sobbed the entire time), and CP is hitting, remembering everything...comes time for the stunt thing, and CP and BFF are so confused and you can see the look of realizing on their faces when they're like 'Oh, you're here," to their flyer and do their stunt section that they were attempting to mark.

I never realized how weird full team splits are until I typed out that sentence hahahah it's just normal to me
But I mean if you're curious as to what it looks like:

i was like "oh thats a cool element" until they got up to switch to the other leg for another split. just too much time on the floor, i think.

Some teams do triple splits, they're like .1 away from the same score as standing tucks.

Not everyone does splits, though. You just have to fill in the flexibility category which includes back walkovers, splits obv and heelstretches. (Yes, right heelstretches on the ground lol)

Time isn't really an issue in this round, since everything you're doing is necessary pretty much. Round 3 is more concerned with time and I don't think I've ever seen a team do team splits in that round.

Yes. It's like watching little cheer robots.
Each round has a purpose and that's the whole point of the second round! Everyone has to do the same thing at the same time. And trust me, not every team looks like they do lol.

Here's the other two rounds for example:
Round 1

Round 3

P.S. I'm totally sorry for going so off topic with this thread!

i don't know, but their cleanliness makes me happy. and those can openers in the round 3 video brought back like some PTSD of getting kicked in the face at least once per practice my junior year of high school. (i don't know if anyone else calls them can openers and i may sound crazy?)

Execution is valued A LOT in MI cheer. My ex-team had standing tucks (highest point value skill) in round two and consistently got beat by a team who's highest skill in that round was a walkover- I think that team got second in the state as well.

And can openers? I have no clue what you're reffering to! hahah but with all the different names for skills in cheer your def not crazy :D

hah the stunt at like 1:20-1:25 ish with the dropping and switching heel stretches. i have no idea why we called them can openers, but i had many a black eye from them.
