They are eligible for paid. Just not at large.

Bummed there are none in California. Seems like mostly mid and eastern US

It seems we didn't go to that many comps last year where bids were being given out.

It seems like there are EASILY enough Worlds bids for every single Worlds team, right?

Not quite. There are definitely teams that walked away without a worlds bid last year, but it was close. They're cutting bids this year though - 2AL for every FP instead of 3.

How does the wildcard slot work in terms of being "paid"? Does your team have to foot the bill to get there on a wildcard bid to compete Friday night?

I'm curious to see how large the Wildcard divisions turn out to be.

I feel like the comps toward the end will have a higher percentage of accepted wildcards.

People who ran out of time to get their bid, also the teams that would normally get them with high scores would likely already have bids so these teams that are given them would be more accepting of them.

I meant specifically in my area. I think every single local Worlds team got a bid and there were bids to space. (Obviously that could change with the new system, though).

Yes. Depending on the size of divisions on Friday, it could be better than an AL bid, though.

aren't there 40 divisions, not 11? small, large, coed for each youth, junior, and senior 1-5? (last season the summit had 35ish divisions as some didn't have enough for small/large splits)
You're right...

I'm very doubtful we will accept WC bids. With having to win to advance vs having to place top 10, I like the odds on top 10 better. Plus, who wants to decide in Dec (which is the WC bids we would have a shot at) to take away a teams chances for an AL? It's a lot of money to spend for a win or go home.

If you get a wildcard and place 1st does it guarantee you a spot in Sunday finals or do you still have to be top half on Saturday to make it to Sunday?

How so? (really clueless as to how this stuff works)

Do you know how a wildcard differs from an AL, other than the obvious with an AL you definitely compete two days?

You win Friday, you advance to Saturday. You'd still need to make top 10 to advance to Sunday

Oh then yeah I wouldn't want a wildcard, just clarifying! Thanks!

We just got our comp schedule last night, so I am not expecting to go to Summit since we only go on a full paid! Those wild cards are useless for us. LOL
