I have been going to Cheer competitions for four years now in Virginia. I have seen and marveled at many Cheer Dads. My commitment has been capped at a T-shirt.
I want to do something cool and not overly embarrasign at the competitions.
Some ideas I liked but can't emulate:
Died hair of the team color
Chants with 20 other fathers
Actual drums (I really mean a set of two drums)

Any ideas?

Please don't be that parent. The one with the face paint and superhero cape holding up the lighted sign screaming for your child while shaking a cowbell front and center in the VIP seats. Just being there for your cp is awesome. Subtlety is way underrated.

"Chants with 20 other fathers."

I don't know why I'm laughing so hard at this. Cheer Dad Chants that only cheer dads can say to identify other cheer dads. :p

You seem like a pretty cool dad already if you have a Fierceboard account. Seeing dads interested and watching the teams who are on were always the cool dads to me. Not ones who looked like they were dragged there and are on their phones the whole entire time playing Candy Crush.

Any CJA dads on here? CJA has the BEST parent section by far IMO. They're always enthusiastic for every team without being obnoxious. If you've never experienced the CJA parent section you are missing out my friend. Maybe they could give you a few pointers.

Just being there is great but please no drums, cowbells or vo vo zellas thingys!! They give everyone else a massive headache ontop of loud music.

If you have long enough hair to pin a bow in then please do that a post a pic!!

Are you imagining Gregorian style chants, cause that would be super funny.

I was imagining more along the lines of dads acting like those groups of sorority girls in movies where they're gossiping or something and they say their sorority chant with their secret hand shake and then start squealing and giggling.

But Gregorian chants are pretty funny too. All chants would be funny in this case. Except satanic chants where someone gets sacrificed. Human sacrifice is less funny.

Unless it's Suzie's mom.

While I'd personally lean toward being subtle...I applaud you for wanting to go all out. Most dads wouldn't do that, heck most kids don't have an active father in their life that gives a crap what they do.

Do you. Make your cheer kid proud (I'm assuming they won't be embarrassed because well...kids). Bang your drums, do your chants, strap on your lights, annoy the heck out of all the people around you because who the heck cares? It's not between you and them, it's between you and cheer kid. Support them how you see fit.

Ask your gym if they'd be in favor of purchasing (or take initiative and get one yourself, just check with owners for logo/design) a flag/banner you could wave and be Flag Dad. Not overly in your face but still supportive and cool. Flag dads are my favorite. Also as a guy you probably have a louder voice than us ladies. We have one awesome dad with a booming voice who, right as everyone gets set and the crowd gets quiet right before the music, yells LETS GO CHEER CHALLENGE at the top of his lungs. So be the one to lead gym chants and whatnot

Drum line dads are my least favorite. We all already have a headache we don't need a marching band intro with every performance.

Also as a fellow Virginian, and if you don't mind me asking, what program are you with?

First off, let me commend you for being such a faithful father and a great person in general! I too marvel at the dad's with the drums and painted faces. I never quite understood that. I know they have awards for being the best participation in the crowd but some of these dads are a little overwhelming. My daughter has been cheering for a few years now and find subtle ways to support her. This year was the first year I was confident enough to make her mix for her team. She went nuts when I used her in a voiceover! But my usual attire is a t shirt with her team logo on it and a team hat. I try not to bring too much attention since I believe the comps should be about the kids.
