hanstand and cartwheel I can work on but also a bridge and walkovers which I cant do due to issue with my back
Helen, why not do a conditioning programme you can implement yourself so you can be fit and ready if and when you are able to take tumble classes again? Sitting and seeing the negative in every situation will do nothing but make you more miserable. Yes, it is unfair the team you tried out for changed their policy. It's also unfair you live so far away and it's very good of you to not join your university team as you are leaving soon. There is so much, however, that you can do to strengthen you body to prepare for tumbling. It's why gymnasts do so much conditioning. If your back injury is so bad as to not be able to bridge, the impact from landing aerial skills like punch fronts and tucks will be unbearable. Take this time to work on strength, mobility and plyometrics; it will not only make learning new tumbling skills easier, but also prevent further injuries.

Do you know why im so negative about it? I havent posted the whole story here and not just cheer wise. I am doing some conditioning not much due to other stuff currently happening.
ETA: Sorry there is just alot happening but if everything goes well in the next 10 months I will be living in the midlands where I have alot of teams there to try out for.

I see what you guys are saying - I guess in the case of a really small gym it is hard to make these inexperienced athletes fit in w/ experienced ones. Most gyms around me have mini 1, youth and/or junior 1/2 and a senior 2/4.2 team to hold those new kids w/o tumbling skills - these are in addition to the level 3, 4 and 5 teams. The smaller the gym, the more crossovering is going on to keep all the teams a good size. At CP's gym I'd say the majority of the girls who have a backhandspring and above are on 2 teams - they may be on the high range of tumbling skill on one, but on the low range on another - and they may have a different stunting position on each team.

When CP first started at that gym, they had a crossover policy and I think 3 or maybe 4 went between Youth and Senior. The next year, no crossovers were allowed period. And, while I understood their reasoning, it hurt those older teams I think.

In our old area, cheer is everywhere but not at the same time. Our team was surrounded by a military base and several smaller surrounding towns, 15 minutes away a brand new all-star team was formed last year, and 30 minutes away another person attempted to start one but it failed, and 45 minutes away (where she went for classes) had more years of experience but not really the widest range of teams (one tiny, one mini, one youth, one senior). From my understanding, they did a better job this year at expanding into more than just one team per age division...but without that, no where had anywhere for the new and inexperienced to come in and learn, while the experiences moved on and up.

Thankfully we're back in Florida now...and it goes without saying, her options are nearly limitless here.

I am confused as to how having a gym to train at will all of a sudden make your back ok to do these skills?

I get where you are coming from about being so desperate to stay in cheer. I was on CA Panthers and had to quit after having back surgery and had withdrawals for so long but just had to accept it

Having at least open gyms to train at when my back was better made me keep focus. The thing I have is I don't know what is wrong so I rest and then when it feels ok ease myself in and its fine.

All very well excepting it but last year was my first year and my first time feeling part of a team something I have never had.

I am moving in 2 weeks anyway but still having issues with my back which is the longest I have had issues so current plan is to take this season off and next year I am hopefully living in a cheer hotspot

Oh, well I hope it gets better! Do you have a diagnosis?

Nope trying to get one but no hope for atleast 2 more months I am considering going private as I hurt it 4 years ago but in the past 2 years it has got worse and the NHS havent done anything and it takes months to see anyone

Oh wow that's crazy

Welcome to the UK where you might get free health care but you certainly have to wait for it!!

I had an MRI 2 years ago it has got worse but since I had one 2 years ago they won't do another one due to cost.

It sucks as I love to be active but it hurts so for once im listening to my body and resting

It does suck. This is another problem with a socialized medical system. Pencil pushers making health decisions, because obviously nothing could have changed with your back in 2 years, right? Idiots!

That is socialized medicine. It's free, but you may be dead or permanently damaged by the time they see you.

I lived in England for 10 years and both me, my husband and kids had great experiences with the NHS. Really miss it... Anyway, Helen I'm sorry you are not having a good experience about getting your back figured out and I hope you get it sorted somehow. And that you can cheer again soon!

My BIL lived in England for several years and had a horrible time getting the care he needed. He hD to fly here several times for things and pay out of pocket.

I'd say while the NHS has its flaws, I'd definitely take it over most healthcare regimens across the world. It is just completely overstretched :(

Helen so sad to hear things haven't worked out for you yet, hopefully when you move and transfer unis your luck will change!

They cannot pay doctors enough to make it attractive to go into a specialty so there is a shortage if specialists. There also aren't enough GPs to support the load. That's one of the major issues with this type of system and why u wouldn't want it.
