I remember changing my avatar from my own cat to my current birthday cat on my 17th(?) birthday I believe. I really started becoming active here after that so I never had the heart to change it in fear that I would be forgotten/ignored :p

I bet you enjoy when we talk about you and your mom ;)

It was entertaining but now I'm immune to it. Although it annoys me when people spell it differently from the way I do :p

My mom is also the exact opposite of a real Suzie's Mom. She would purposely not go into the gym so she could avoid all the SM's in the parent room. She and my dad coached for a number of years at the first gym we were at and by the time I decided I wanted to go to a new gym she had had enough of Suzie's Moms. But I'm sure if she knew that "Suzie's Mom" was a thing, she'd embarassingly come here and make that her username. And then I would have to change my username and start a new identity.

This is where I'm gonna need y'all to just fall over laughing and virtually high five me. The last 4-5 responses in my head (that top ten list I can never use) have been SPOT. ON.

I'll be here all week.

Sadly, I'll only be here in my head. Which may, in fact, make me mentally unstable. But, do carry on! I'm looking forward to my next silent zinger!

You can always send these zingers to some of us in PM. I love sarcasm and wit [emoji6]

Scoring aside...because I concur that some seemed "odd"...but I'm a parent so what do I know? ;)
Anyway...I think NCA needs to boycott Dallas and the convention center.
- The "stay to play" hotels were, for the most part, way too far away while many hotels closer in could get you "disqualified".
- The venue must have some sort of housekeeping service in the contract. I doubt NCA (cough Varsity) asked for a cheaper price if they passed on basic services...but the place looked like no basic cleaning services were provided. It was honestly worse than a frat house the morning after a party!!! Totally disgusting! Yet the door keepers were paid well to ensure that coffee was Starbucks and not one in a cup from a different establishment.
- and final rant...the taxi crooks...um I mean drivers. Not turning meters on! Quoting random pricing because "10 is later than 9". Insisting you tip higher. Hey Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau...Get a handle on it! This is not the annual "fleece the cheerleaders" event...or is it? It has gotten worse year after year.
I have to agree about the shady taxi drivers. I have only used taxis the past two years. And then it was only because I had no choice due to the hotel I was placed in. All of the hotels are supposed to have nearby train stations. They don't. Thus I was forced to pay $40 dollars for a one way taxi ride to the Convention Center and then another $40 to return to the hotel.

This year due to the weather when we arrived we shared a taxi to downtown Dallas from Love Field. The meter didn't get turned on as you mentioned. We were charged $40 to travel 6 miles.

In addition, the hotel overcharged me by $46 a day. This issue has yet to be resolved but I'm hopeful it will be.

I think that these issues need to be brought to the attention of the individuals responsible for the Stay to Play arrangements, the Dallas Chamber of Commerce, the taxi company and even NCA. They need to be aware how prevalent the problem is and the impact to their business. There's no guarantee that this will fix the problem however, without doing this I can guarantee nothing will change.

This isn't an update, but I feel like it should be here due to the previous discussion of sportsmanship in this thread.
Not only is this extremely precious, but a nice reminder of how sportsmanship can be shown in different ways in our sport.
Edit: I'm sorry for how big the pictures are.

Thanks for sharing, made me tear up.

This is where I think we get a stilted perspective when we spend all of our time immersed in elite level five. You watch the Brandon Senior Bots (I mean that in a good way, those kids are daggum machines!) and you start to just expect everyone should be like that, or TGLC etc etc. so when a team who may be doing phenomenally well for where they started or how long they've even existed performs and they don't look like WE Generals or Wildcats they get the  Look and the nasty comments to follow (generally from rabid fans who couldn't make their dream team if they tried...yeah, I said it).

When In fact we're expecting the extraordinary to be the ordinary and it doesn't work like that. So, all the kids out there just working and improving get hammered for not already being at the pinnacle of the sport and that's not fair to anyone...not to the kids on those teams and really not even to the ones at the top who then get pummeled if they dare "be kids" and have an off performance. Case in point....what social media has done to Smoed. Everyone is entitled to an off year but if you're the three time world champion you're going to be flayed alive for it.
I couldn't agree more. From what I've seen SMOED doesn't have an issue with their team's placement. They are disappointed in their performance which is to be expected. But, what has made them so unhappy is how people have treated two of the youngest (if not the youngest) individuals on their team. There is NO reason under any circumstances for people to berate, make fun of, create and disseminate vines etc. I feel comfortable saying these athletes have never said or done a single thing to any of the individuals that are circulating the hateful material on social media. Why they do it? I don't know. Jealousy perhaps. I can't really say why. Maybe, because they can. But, they shouldn't. The athletes teammates can't even take to social media to attempt to thwart the bullying because then they are accused of being mean when their intention is to defend.

I'm not talking about the general discussion that surrounds a team's performance. Teams can expect to receive critique on their performance on the mat. I'm talking about mean spirited hurtful things. The athletes should never ever expect to receive what these athletes have endured on social media. Keep in mind one of these athletes is 12 years old. Really folks? This needs to stop. I don't care what gym, what team or which athlete it's happening to, it all needs to stop. Coaches you are all on social media. Handle it. It doesn't make your program look good. Parents promote sportsmanship and respect for your fellow athlete. Show your kids by example how to handle defeat graciously, win and remain humble, cope with jealousies, stay positive and stay classy.

Unfortunately this is not an isolated case. With the advent of social media it's pervasive. And so devastating. If we saw a nineteen year old individual beating up a 12 year old kid would we try to stop it ? How about 10, 15, 25...50...100 nineteen year olds all beating up on one 12 year old kid ? Would we try to stop that ? Then stop it. Because that is what is occurring. Individuals are using social media as a weapon and beating up on young kids that don't deserve it. Physical scars heal, emotional scars are far more difficult to heal. Sometimes they never heal and affect us throughout our entire lives. We can't afford to let this kind of thing go unchecked, can we ? If we do we will regret it. Remember, our kid could be next.
