All-Star What Goes Under The Uniform????

Myself and a few of my dance moms friends were talking and a lot of them are upset because a dance teacher told a group of 6-11 year old girls that they needed to buy thongs to wear under their costumes. I'm split on the matter, mostly because I understand were both parties are coming from, but how would you feel if your coach or your child's coach told them that they had to wear a thong under their uniform?

I am not sure how skimpy the bottom of the costume is, but I know GK sells nude/flesh color undies that is cut to go underneath a leotard withouth showing. I would assume something like that would work. GK is pretty expensive and perhaps thsi teacher was thinking it would be cheaper and easier for the parents to find thongs than to buy special order items?

My daughter is a flyer and she wears her normal panties and 2 pairs of spankies. She usually wears solid black as the bottom layer and then whatever the uniform spankies are as the top layer.

I had a lot of dance costumes that we couldn't wear underwear with- but not until I was probably 12 or 13. We had to wear tights and that's it.

My daughter has worn a similar brand and they worked well for the most part, but now a days,the bottoms are extremely skimpy and they'll show thru.
@JulieP Over 75% of the dances are tight-less.

I grew up as a dancer and as someone else noted, most dancers don't wear underwear with their leotards and tights. It's similar. You'd never let your daughter out of the house without underwear under her jeans and you won't let her out with a thong under her jeans. If you approach it like that, it's not as much of a problem.

Are we talking dancing? I didn't wear underwear under my costume. I just wore tights. It's also why I find all of this talk about sports bras in uniforms kind of funny. You don't really wear a bra under a dance costume either.

If the design of the gym's uniform was so tight/revealing that it would require a 6 year old to wear a thong then it would be time to find a new gym. I would run, not walk, out of that place.

I would be embaressed as a coach to ask for that. Last season I made all the parents give me money so I could buy hotpants/briefs for them, so the opposite wouldn't happen (kids showing up in too small-briefs).

It's not always that it's tight/revealing. Sometimes it's the color of the uniform as well. I just ordered 12 pairs of nude colored boyshort underwear for girls on my daughter's Mini team (the life of a team mom...) because they have white shorts. It's either nude boyshorts or they wear an additional pair of spandex shorts under them because anything else shows through.

..I often wore a sports-bra type item under my dance clothes. And I was like 10 the last time I danced in a costume..

I think we're comparing apples to oranges. The mentalities of those in dance and those in cheer are completely different. There is probably a dance forum out there somewhere with a post like, "Would you allow your daughter to practice in a bra and spankies like they do in cheer?!"
