Epidemiology of cheerleading injuries presenting to NEISS ho... : The Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery

To sum it up, more injuries in stunting than tumbling. Also, more injuries to the upper extremity than the lower extremity.
Thank you, I'm a numbers person I was hoping to find a study like this.

Just playing devil's advocate here - but not all injuries get routed to the ER. Maybe it is that stunting injuries can be more catastrophic that more of them go to the ER? Lots of tumblers know instantly when they're injured and know what to do next - they don't need an ER.

I didn't see in the article how many of the injuries required surgery. An injury to the upper extremity like a sprained finger or wrist may be the most common, a torn ACL is much more severe and expensive to care for.

Interesting, but this study is over 5 years old and the data is from 5-10 years old.
Both tumbling and stunting have become way more advanced and dangerous since 2002.
It also doesn't look like it splits up Rec cheerleading from AS cheering which we'd need since USASF doesn't govern Rec teams..
