I'm new so I don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but I'm working to get my BHS and I have a huge mental block. Like my coaches tell me I have it by myself but if I even try to do it alone I mess up and just freak out even though I do good when they're spotting me. Advice on how to get over my tumbling mental block??

You just have to go for it. Swing your arms and jump. The worst that can happen is that you touch down. Imagine yourself doing it perfectly and just throw it and don't second guess yourself, that's when you can mess up.

I studied sports psychology last semester and why I found most helpful. Close your eyes and envision yourself doing a BHS. When you picture it, picture yourself getting in position before and landing after. Don't just SEE yourself doing it, try to involve all of your senses. Think of what you hear (like clapping your hands, and when your feet hit the ground, etc), think of what your hands feel. Try to picture as many details as possible. It sounds weird, but it actually works

Rep it out. The more you do, the more your body becomes comfortable with what your are doing. You need hundreds of reps under your belt, probably more.

Do them where you are more comfortable without a spot. I started on tramp, then down a cheese, on a flat crash mat and finally the floor. I also started telling my spotter to be there, but only spot if I was going to eat the floor. Finally, they touched me when I knew I could have made it, and I got upset at them for spotting me. That's when I knew I had to pull it cos I could
