Pretty sure I know what event and team you're talking about and I am also very surprised to learn they didn't get a bid. I did feel like their was some favoritism at this event but bid wise that has to be a mistake? Both level 4 grand Champs and level 5 grand did not get bids but other teams...

I was like no that's pain! Then the announcer says don't think that's pain, its relief at being done. How does he not know they stopped the routine?

The maximum age for the International junior divisions is increasing to 16. That may have been what you heard?

I would think they are just trying to evenly split the bids, since 4.2, 5 and 5r are generally smaller divisions compared to 4 or 2. This would give 4.2 a better shot.

Ultimate Athletics is about 30 minutes away. I live right near deerfield so I make that drive all the time. Also Ace Cheer is in Lake Bluff, about the same distance. I'm obviously partial to the first one.
