Well, quitthedrama just won the internet!!! Nothing else needs to be said!

We were thrilled with the whole weekend. Sure, things need to be re-thought or tweaked but what inaugural event doesn't??? Heck, Worlds has had 10 years to get it right and still hasn't.

THIS!!!

Worlds is like an abusive husband who tells you there's no one who can do what he can. Then after you vow not to go back to him, you realize he's probably right (because you're so screwed up). You fight with a bunch of other chicks to get back to him. Then, when you do, he punches you in the eye, takes your money and locks your parents out when they come to see you!

I took it as it was said, "our" teams and not dissing the others. But they also had an advantage, since the the competition was in their backyard. If you're traveling a far distance, why not go to the "prom"? The music? I understand why they had to change it but I'm wondering if that was a cost too that was passed down to the athletes in anyway or the gym paid for it themselves or maybe Nfinity paid....just wondering.

I have to admit though, I too see it as almost a distraction before Worlds for a one day competition that I'm not sure what the purpose was for. I'm glad to see money went to charities, but couldn't have the gym done a fundraiser, everyone asked to donate and just give the money to charity and call it a day? The amount spent to get to the competition for each athlete, parent, and coaches together per organization would have given more to the charities than the actual prize money in most cases.

Everything is already so expensive to just cheer All Star. To add more away competitions just results in less athletes being able to ever reach the dream of an "elite" in All Star, if that makes sense. "You want to move up and be on that level 5 team that does all this fabulous stuff in the movie? Oh, that'll be another $1000".

I hope this movie does good things for the sport, because the thought that "You too can be an "elite", but if only you have $8-10,000 lying around a year", is not too promising.

I guess that's for another thread, but I find it absolutely crazy how much money is spent for 2 minutes and 30 seconds on the mat.
I think anytime you can get a routine on the floor (especially if you've made changes in routine or personnel) with judges, lights and a crowd it's helpful. Judges feedback especially. Better than just throwing full outs in your gym...especially if you've got stout competition. I tend to think the teams that win worlds are the most experienced in terms of competition composure and poise under pressure.

Yes exactly. But you know this because we talked about it all weekend. :D. We practiced Friday night and before that our last full practice was over a week before that. Of course I absolutely KNOW every other team has their eye on the prize like we do!! My apologies if I implied otherwise.

I just read this entire conversation and I'm chuckling at the misunderstanding. My CP has known for years that Rays usually doesn't go to the "extra" events because of practice, or team meetings and such. We knew that your kids wouldn't be there. We simply didn't expect to see them. I'm sure you can guess who told her way back when. ;-)

Bahahahaha! That's great! Omg! I'm dying! Let me explain...

Obviously, you haven't been almost locked out of the Milk House when your child is about to go on! Honey, when they try to tell you that you can't get in, because it's too crowded, because of their poor planning, after you got up so early, and paid all that money, it feels like a black eye!

I did not go last year because of the 2012 debacle and I genuinely was afraid of my response if there had been a repeat last year. I'm embarrassed to admit that really. I just remember thinking that if I had been just a little less sane - had a little less self control - that things could have turned ugly. Luckily they did come up with that solution to escort us all in and out to watch our kids which saved my family from significant humiliation and perhaps bail money. Like a battered wife I'm returning this year and am convinced that the separate session tickets are a solution to this problem. I will, however, be there early with my park hopper pass to claim my seat and superglue my hiney into it until I see my kid compete.

I'm just saying... If I paid my hundreds of dollars to get there, you can bet there would be actual black eyes if I wasn't able to get in. Family or not.

I feel like if they were going to do a 'fun' side award, I'd want something less...celebrity? Best emotion I don't understand in any capacity (as how do you not have emotion performing), but best practice wear just alludes to the side of the industry I don't mind discussing, but feel kinda icky 'rewarding'. If it were 'best stunt save', 'best post tumbling pass reaction' 'most intense hair whip' I'd be more on board.
Down here in Texas a company called Spirit Celebration gives out "WOW" awards at every competition. The "WOW" award is a plaque and goes to a handful of athletes in each session for selling their routine the best, standing out, and having "emotion" while performing. Some teams just go through the motions and don't "put on a show" or perform their routine, therefor no one from their team will get a "WOW" award. I don't see this award (best emotion) as anything different.
