Someone posted this on facebook and unfortunately, I don't know where this article came. I really hope this isn't going to give cheerleading any more bad publicity.

MOVE OVER TLC ...

CHEER CHANNEL INC., MOVES TO CABLE TELEVISION IN JOINT VENTURE WITH SIMPLYME TV

Cheer Channel Becomes Exclusive Content Provider of Cheer-Related Programming
...

(July 10, 2012 - Austin, TX) - Cheer Channel Inc., (CCI), the industry's leading digital entertainment and news network devoted entirely to cheerleaders, dancers and their millions of fans worldwide has reached an agreement with content distribution giant, Simply Me TV to provide ad-supported premium content via satellite, VOD, cable, PPV, and mobile. CCI will unveil a slate of original, scripted programming, reality shows, mini-series, lifestyle and entertainment shows, television specials, and a variety of cheer and dance events.

CCI's programming will become available in September 2012 on the #1 Dish Satellite Network, Comcast Cable, Omniverse TV, NBC Broadcast and Digital affiliates, Simplyme Mobile, Roku, Boxee, Mobitv and numerous mobile providers and devices with an audience reach of more than 50 million households.

"It has been our vision since the launch of Cheer Channel 2 1/2 years ago, that we be able to expand our network brand and unique content to reach millions of tween and teens girls and boys who not only participate in the sport but also to entice outsiders as what this sport is about and how to get involved. For the industry, our network offers an affordable solution to showcase cheerleading and dance while giving viewers 24-7 access which makes this an important milestone for this industry," said Cindy Villarreal, Founder and CEO of CCI. "This also allows us to build out our programming as a channel for the industry."

"I am very excited to have the Cheer Channel and its distinguished team of executives and producers join us as a premium content channel targeting tween and teens, said Krystol Cameron, CEO of Simply Me TV, which distributes media over cable, satellite-to-home, IPTV, mobile and TV in the United States. "Simplyme.tv prides itself on the ability to provide content, which has been launched online as a means to discover consumer interest, such as the success around Secret Diary of an American Cheerleader, and use those results to deliver programming over affiliate distribution relationships nationwide." Added Cameron, "There is no doubt that cheerleading and dance are a part of American pop culture that draw record fans in the millions from "Bring It On" to "Dancing with the Stars."

Lance H. Robbins, president CCI and the recently formed CCI digital studios stated, "While our recent success with the dramatic web-series, 'Secret Diary of an American Cheerleader' received more than 400,000 views in five weeks on YouTube and over 160,000 new followers on the shows social pages, it is even more exciting for our advertisers and our industry partners to grow along with our channel as we expand our already large, growing and loyal fan base."

It looks like it will still be online? The simply me is an incubator of online shows to see if it will get traction for cable?

I don't know. It said dish network and Comcast cable starting 9/2012. The only thing I'd like to see is actual coverage from competitions. Never been to NCA but I'd love some one to set up a live broadcast!

It could be online content through them. Comcast has some new online, "hulu" esque feature.

They would need A LOT more than a 6-episode series of 7 minute long episodes to be a tv network.

400,000 views is a lot to base an entire network on. I've seen people get kicked in the face with more views.

There is more. Give them a chance. I think one has to understand that bills have to be paid and although there may be things the purest finds lacking in some formats, it may pave the way for programing that meets your ideals and wishes soundly. I assume none of us want Youth Silver to be All Star's only notable representation on mass media. Patience is sometimes a virtue.

I understand that, but I'm with Kingston in that I'm not even sure this is actually going to be a real channel on TV (more like extra content online or in the on demand options). If it premieres in September, I can't see how it's going to be anything other than an hour of content each day with infomercials the rest of the time. Maybe that's their goal to raise money, but it would be frustrating as a viewer.

I'm not even hating on that show in my original content, I just think they need to grow more, and maybe they're not ready yet to be a network station. Plus, does Varsity/USASF get paid for the competitions that air on tv? Getting the rights from ESPN/CBS/Fox Sports is going to be prohibitively expensive for any of the major competitions.

I'm not saying it can't or won't happy, I'm just not sure how it can happen in 3 months time.

Their thunder, I'll let them share it as they see fit. My understanding of Worlds and NCA is that USASF and Varsity pay ESPN/CBS/FOX, not vica versa, but I could be wrong. I think the broadcasts are commercials for the competitions paid for by the EP. I just know that producing 15 minutes of live broadcast on a news channel costs a lot more than 100k, so to those who think a full slate line up or programming is going to materialize from the beginning, I think you are going to be disappointed. Takes time, sponsors, a lot of work and a whole lot of money.

I had heard that as well actually, I just wasn't sure if that was actually the case.

So if they *are* their own network on TV, out of curiosity, what do you think we can or should expect to see when they premiere? A lot of blackouts with no content until they can really get up and running?

I wish them the best, I certainly won't mind having a cheer channel (though I'm switching from Comcast to FIOS, which doesn't look included), but there are very few new channels nowadays that don't come from an already existing media empire. It's definitely going to be an uphill battle.

I don't want to speculate and raise expectations and be wrong. I can tell you the names you are reading are fine people with a lot of experience in their areas. Some are promotion, some are programming, etc. They appear to respect cheer and the sport and I believe understand there is going to have to be a balance between entertainment and presenting the sport in a positive light and I do believe they will do just that if they can build the fan base and sponsors. The only organization I would know of that could take off from the first would be Varsity but the best I can tell even middle of the road programing on a cable channel is hundreds of thousands per hour and I suspect they would never commit to that unless they had the expertise and a relatively sure business model. Like it or not, cheer has a ways to go to get main stream and although I watched the other show for 5 minutes and could not take much anymore, the quote for the partent that said, I paraphrase "I pay a lot of money to them so my kid better be on the best team" says it all in my opinion. That is a pagent, not a sport.

I don't think anyone has a problem with the idea of a station or that it has to sell products to make money. I think the biggest issue is that the web series presented seemed like less a show about cheerleading and more a vehicle to promote products and somewhat disrespectful to what we all do and love. It would be idiotic to say they didn't get portions of it right. I thought bringing in the cheerlebrities was a fantastic promotional idea... but the promotion was kinda bigger than the show itself. As well its a bit misleading saying 400,000 views. Each show progressively got fewer and fewer views (minus the well publicized show with the cheerlebrities... and it still didnt match the first show). It looks like 30,000 views happened with the season finale (I assume those are not unique). If that is all it takes to launch a TV station then someone needs to make a show about the board. There are threads with 30,000 views (and some with 100,000).

So the question is does the system setup to promote need to exist before any real good content happens or does the content need to exist and then you can have the system?
