Here are some practical rules for cheerleading nowadays:

The second you perform publicly your routine will be seen by everyone. Just a fact of how easy it is to share videos nowadays.
Anytime music is in the possession of at least one athlete then the entire cheer world has it. So either just you (the coach) has it or everyone has it.. no in between.
If you allow people to film at your gym that is also online and other gyms have seen your stuff.... possibly 30 seconds after you just did it.
Your athletes on your team have already told their friends on the rival team they compete against what you at doing and (most likely inflated) how well they are doing it.

I agree 100%. Quick question for you though- how do you guys handle this? Do you allow your cheer parents/athletes to post on youtube?

If we have competed it is now in the public domain. We limit filming in the gym. We keep all music on our iPods / phones. Past that there isn't terribly too much you can do. Instead of demanding we ask that all parents (and athletes) show respect for the program by keeping as much off the internet until we have competed. Even then you know people share stuff constantly between their friends everywhere 'behind closed doors'.
