There are a huge amount of crazy mamas paying some of these kids $50-$65 per 30 second shout out. I hope these kids take advantage of every financial opportunity they can while they have the ability to do so.

    Unpopular Opinion: Hear me out
Sorry, but for as much as everyone says Varsity should have let Netflix IN for filming of the event...Netflix should have taken the opportunity to work WITH Varsity... I find it hard to believe that Varsity was just soooo tyrannical and uncooperative to the point where one of the heads of the company agreed to sit down for interview.?!?? Be mindful this is TV!!!! I’m sorry- I don’t buy EVERYTHING Netflix sold here other than a great documentary on our sport.
With Any TV you have to take everything with a grain of salt- and I mean everything.
Humor me a bit- and think... every Sally, Sue and Tom is a Vlogger ,an influencer a You Tube Sensation.... can you imagine the complete chaos it would be these days...if production wasn’t regulated at these high profile events. The focus WOULD eventually be completely taken off of the event and the sport and it would be a total circus not to mention there’s kids to protect.
To add to this... from a logical business perspective -(and I guess I’m speaking to the whole Monopoly Whatever thing)
To me: it’s the same concept as attending a concert ... common sense would say the producer of that concert has the rights to televising and press access. Varsity created their competitions (as a business) like an event producer of a concert creates their events (as a business) ... why is one “The Big Bad wolf” for trying to regulate THEIR business and production?!
I’m not saying anyone has to agree with me- but just providing an alternative perspective...
does Varsity Encompass a Lot ? Yes but so does
    Amazon
    Google
    Apple
    Disney
    NETFLIX
    Etc...
Don’t like it? Do what they’re doing better! Correct me if I’m wrong but all those companies created something out of pretty much nothing... And when they discovered others that would/could compliment their already existing success they were smart and brought them on board.

Saw a tweet today. They’ve added a clause in the NCA/NDA rules that would seem to specifically target these types of documentaries.

From The Ultimate Climb post on Facebook Netflix and Varsity are going to work together:

If you haven’t seen the recent TMZ article, it seems as if Varsity is in direct talks with Netflix to continue further seasons of CHEER. Here’s the link to the article before you read further: Netflix's 'Cheer' Producers Turned Down Daytona Footage, Varsity Claims

Coincidentally, Varsity also just released a revision to College Competition Rules (see date circled) which brought to light the rule that requires schools to enter into an “access license” with complete oversight and approval in a television series or print media via an “access license.” Teams that don’t participate in an access license or if Varsity deems any footage aired to be out of line (it’s a very broad definition, as usual) could jeopardize a school’s eligibility to compete at a Varsity NCA or NDA College Championship. We’re not quite sure if this is a new rule or not. But this rule has come to light by many college cheer coaches because of the recent success of CHEER. Unfortunately, most large scale television production companies are not going to participate in a license that gives a school authority to censor content so it ends up on the cutting room floor. It’s too messy and complicated when production budgets are involved.

Do you feel that Varsity set these rules in play to squelch other media outlets and production companies from profiting off of college cheer?

Oh and by the way, Navarro cheerleaders were on the set of the Ellen Show today. Ellen and Jerry in the same room, guys. My heart is full.

It’s not a new rule. The changes made recently were to other parts of the rule book, but it shows as the whole thing having been updated.

Yea agreed with the above. As a medical professional, it's a little over the top. Most of the responses I've seen from people in or close to the program disagree with this POV as well.

    yes, this.

    From Justin Carrier's twitter:
"I think NCA looked pretty great on Netflix. The only updates I made to the College Rulebook are on pg 3 and 48 because we left out information pertaining to Partner Stunt and Mascot video qualifiers. Feel free to email me if you have any more questions. JCarrier@varsity.com

Whether the rule is new or has been there since the inception of NCA, I am willing to bet that the only reason why Netflix is agreeing to work with Varsity is because there was a "reminder" of said policy. Netflix was pretty vocal about their disapproval of Varsity so to me there's only one reason why they would do an about face, particularly since they have their own film crew and had no problems getting the video footage they needed last year at Daytona.

I absolutely LOVED this series, but I'm not convinced about another season or dragging this on. It loses the authenticity that I think made it so enjoyable.

I don't disagree but I also would not be surprised in the least if the filmmakers knew in advance they would have an obstacle filming there and used the opportunity to create a little more drama. Many places require permits to film and it is no secret among the cheer community how proprietary Varsity/Flocheer etc are.
