So my best friend on our squad turned 18 last week and got a tattoo on whim...on the low back ( i know i know...another one of those lol). We are off this whole week from cheering, football team has no game so our coach gave us off from practice, a nice break! So it gives her some healing time for the tat...but she said shes planning on keeping it from our coach...who is really strict about piercings and tats and, pretty conservative. I think she should just come out and tell her before she finds out and hits the roof, although i dont think she can be kicked off the squad for a tat...our rules state no visible tats or piercings ZERO tolerance. Im just not into her keeping things from a coach..

If she knows, for a fact, that the tat will never, ever be seen by the coach, why tell? I mean, whether she tells the coach or not, the tat isn't going away. What's the coach gonna do? Tell her to take it back and get a refund?

She should wear her bloomers up high enough to cover the tattoo if possible(right under the bellybutton so the skirt lays over it the same) and put athletic tape over it for games as well just in case so that the professional image is still there. Its the same thing all of the cheer camp companies make you do if you are a staffer with tattoos......athletic tape works wonders.

It would be a different story if the coach was also her mom :) But as long as it is covered up properly for games and competitions it's no big deal.

The team rule is no VISIBLE tattoos.....so just don't let it be visible. For now, sounds like she'll be covering it with a big bandage for practice and games (even if the uniform covers it, she should cover it as well, just to be on the safe side. As for once it's had a few weeks to heal....she can use makeup like DermaBlend to cover it.

Hey ash-its the same rule for my high school squad, nothing allowed to show. I have a tattoo on my back. I was worried about it showing at first, but I realized one thing- our skirts are not low rise, where my tattoo would show with low jeans is covered by my skirt completely. I have to cover it up with a bandaid in practice cuz I wear those adidas workout tanks that show some tummy. in the uniform shell only a tiny bit of my back shows sitting and reaching and its like more in the middle way above the tatoo. I always carry waterproof makeup in my bag just in case though hehe. Some other squads during games and stuff i guess have no rules cuz I see tattoos alot. But tell your friend to test all the uniforms and see if she has to cover it up....and tell her to tell the coach haha so she doesnt freak out!

As a coach I can tell you....we always find out! ;)
Considering the rule is no "visible" tattoos, I would say, don't try to hide it, but there's no reason to through it in their face either. A couple of my girls have tattoos. I dont mind as long as their covered for competition....but that's another story.

Like I said though, we always find out. A couple of my girls were at a party this weekend, I didn't see a picture, it wasn't posted on their FB or Twitter, but I know.....we have eyes everywhere! :p

Agree completely. We always find out! Somehow, someway, someone brings it to our attention (or we just overhear the girls talking and telling on themselves!) Since its not visible the coach really shouldn't have a problem with it. Ultimately she is not your mother so as long as your not breaking her rule she cannot control what you do to your body.
