I had really bad knee pain and I went to the doctor Wednesday. She told me I had hyper mobility in my joints and that my ligaments don't hold my knee super tight, i think. If it hurts at practices I have to put on my brace. It isn't damaging my joints though, I just need to listen to my body. I would suggest going to a doctor to have things checked out :) us cheerleaders have old lady joints ;):banghead::starwars:

I have what's called Snapping Hip Syndrome in my knees. It's where the tendons on the sides pull so much when stretching to not actually tear but enough to cause pain. I was supposed to do exercises for it like where you lean against the wall but have your legs straight and another where you cross your legs, bend down and walk your hands around to the side of your body. However, with my flexibility from cheer, even when the doctor corrected my stance I didn't feel anything and I gave up on doing them

Those sound like IT band stretches. Don't know if that's related to this syndrome.

For about 3-5 days this week I've had to wear my knee brace. It has come to the point where walking is painful. I'm icing/heating it and taking medicine. Anything else I should do?? Can't see a doctor either, and my mom (nurse) doesn't think its anything bad but it hurts...

1. Why can't you see a Dr?
2. Rest, Ice and Elevation

Because I'm incredibly busy and my parents don't find it necessary to take me because they think its just going to go away. I'm just worried because next weekend is a big competition for us and then the weekend after is UCA.... I don't want to be told i can't compete but I don't want to be injured :(

Stay off of it as much as you can. Seriously...stay off of it. Lots of ice and rest. If the pain doesn't go away though, you need to convince your parents to take you.

I've been sitting for the majority of the day! Its just occasional walks down to my kitchen to get food :D

A knee specialist came into our gym once and did this entire presentation on knee injuries and how to prevent them. It was super informative, he said estrogen played a part in it because it softens the joints/muscles. But I don't see that being something that goes across the board.... Definitely think that hip shape has a lot more to do with it...... thinking back a lot of the girls who I know that have had acl tears all have wide hips. hmmm...
Very interesting. I've had quite a few injuries. My knee doctor told me that most injuries in women happen during that time of the month. I have found that to be true of myself and also a lot of other girls I've known that have torn muscles. He also says that you are typically injured on the side that isn't your dominant side. Not sure how accurate this is but for me it is. I'm right handed and every single injury except 1 has been on my left side - the sprained ankle on my right is the only exception and it was from a stupid game after a practice! I find all this science interesting and hope it can one day help us prevent injuries if we know signs to look out for!

Interesting. I'm right handed and my bad ankle and my worse (I broke them both but one gives me more issues than the other) arm are both my left... My tumbling also veers left. I wonder if you were left handed and tumbled right (or vice versa) how that would affect it.
