That's kind of a broad area so I'll help the best I can!
Colors:
Try to go with colors that look good on you. For example, if you have brown eyes, then golds, browns, and greens will look best on you.
You can also go with what will look good with your uniform. For example, with your red black and white/ silver uniform, I would try a silver that fades out to gold.
Experiment and decide what YOU like!
To keep on during competition:
Use as much waterproof as you can! It will last all through competition (though you might have trouble getting it off after!). Also, use secrets from other sports. Synchronized swimmers use chap stick as a base for their eyeshadow to make sure it stays on all throughout their performance, even in the water!
