So we are set to go to Jam Live on March 1 in Louisville but this is my first time going. The gym owner told me that our has 45-sec to do whatever we want to the music of our choice. What did you all do?? What kinds of things CAN we do?

what she means is your team walks down a red carpet to the stage an you can play whatever music you want. most teams just walk down, wave, maybe dance or whatever. if you want to win the "Best Red Carpet Entrance" Award, you'll have to do something special. the team who won the award at the JamLive i went to got in groups of three or four and did chair sits all the way down the carpet.

Don't think its a big thing, no one will really be watching your team's entrance except for other people from your gym.

pittsburgh poison is comin through your area, causin mass hysteria!

Jam live is so fun! The girls walk down the red carpet (through the audience) escorted by "security" (guys dressed in black suits) through the paparazzi (parents taking pictures). A song of you choice plays while the girls are doing this. In years past, our girls walked down to Fireworks, stronger, Party Rock Anthem, Welcome to the Jungle, and Titanium. I've seen girls walk down in boas, big sunglasses, tiaras, and light up necklaces. They just took them off and threw them to parents before hitting the stage.

We were there last year, and I don't remember any grand entrances. Maybe more of the younger girls do them? We were late in the day. I want to say awards for us were well after 10--way too late for me on a school night, and I had a cold besides ;)

Maybe the entrance is just for the bigger comps, then? The rest of the program is going to DC the week before, and just the minis and prep will be at Philly. I will try to track down the owners and see what they say. It is cp's last comp of the season, so if there is some extra fun to be had, I want them to!

Are you sure that it was JamLive? Awards are almost immediately after the division ends, except for those that are in first place. I only ask because that entrance and the leaders lounge (couch with DJ and lights) are their hook for the comp.

It is fun and different for them to walk the red carpet up to the stage. The security guards cracked me up! Reminds me of a couple of weeks ago, CP told me, "Mom, I like comps where we're up on a stage." I asked her why. "Because that's where we deserve to be." Yup, she's confident.

Yeah, we were in the last division, I guess? I remember competing, then running out to the pizza shop next door for a slice. They didn't do well, so no leaders lounge for us, lol! It was annoying that awards were so late when we already knew how we placed. CP got a $5 Live logo shirt because it was the last Live event of the year and they were clearing out the merch.

@busycrazycheermom -Love the venue but hated the comp itself. First off, I think that the concept is too intense for minis. They are just starting to truly grasp the meaning of competition, but this intensifies everything to more than they can/should handle, imo.

The constant flow of movement between both teams and parents was confusing and and created many bottlenecks. Some of it could have been fixed if they had bleachers instead of floor seats. The sight lines where horrible in nearly every direction, because parents were trying to move from the red carpet, to VIP viewing to awards, and then possible crossing to the other side to get pics while the kids were in the Lounge.

Usually, I am against participation trophies, but was thankful that they had them here to help ease the total dismissal of the teams who weren't in first place. I am sad that this was our last comp because it had such a strange feel to it. I am hoping that it is not on the schedule for next year.

I felt the same way. Luckily, we had more competitions after Live but I don't think we'll be going back to it.

@mamabear I have mixed feelings about it but overall I wouldn't be disappointed if our program didn't go back in future years. (I don't think they have any plans not to go back - just saying that I wouldn't mind if we didn't!) In the interest of full disclosure, I will say that our minis did take first so they did get that excitement - but I also have a CP on youth 2 who came in 4th of 5 so we experienced that side of the experience as well.

One thing I can say without hesitation is that I definitely do NOT like the rush to get the scores out. There was a lot of controversy around my youth CP's team's score - a deduction for an illegality that was later determined not to have actually occurred, some questions about the start value of the routine, etc. Coaches just don't have enough time to review the scoresheet and address any concerns before the score is announced which seems like a disaster waiting to happen IMO! And I 100% agree about the bottleneck issue with the VIP area and the red carpet and the score announcement etc...

The whole "leader lounge" thing is an interesting shtick, but if the team that ends up taking first performs last, they don't really get the experience of sitting in there (which is what happened with my mini) - but the flip side of that is that if they'd gone on first, no one else would have gotten the fun of sitting in there either which is no good either! So then you end up with teams that win but feel like "wait, we didn't even get to do the whole point of it!" or teams that feel like, "no one else even got a chance to enjoy the whole point of it!" If that makes sense.

I am always glad to find someone else who hates the everyone gets a trophy thing, LOL... and then at the same time I agree with you that it does work with this comp format. Each team gets that moment in the spotlight before the score is announced, parents get to take pics of them on stage, etc which is cool. At traditional awards they announce that you took 4th or what have you, and a split second later they're announcing third and everyone's moved on. In this format the kids do get that singled out time on stage even if they don't win. My youth CP (whose team has only taken 1st once this season and has come in 7th out of 7 as well - so she has some insight on both the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat, ha!) loved that part of it and even said, "Even though we didn't win, we got to be up on stage together and that was really fun!" I honestly think she felt less disappointed about not taking 1st in this format because they didn't have to sit there on the mat and watch the winners announced. So I'll give a thumbs up to that!

I don't know... I think I'm just a traditionalist, I like the standard perform, wait for awards, find out the results setup! I think I actually enjoy the torment of the suspense as they announce 8th... 7th... 6th... and you're waiting and waiting to hear your team.

I wish they'd announce the final order after the last team in the division went. There were a lot of teams in the Senior 2 division and we didn't write down everyone's scores so we were sitting there like "oh, so what place did they end up in?" It's never announce which bothers me. A team in 2nd or 3rd out of a bunch of great teams should get a moment to celebrate too.

I totally agree with this part about the scores. Last year our Jr2 were told we were second place so everyone left. Our coach questioned the scores and it turns out we didn't get credit for triple jumps, after the adjustments we were actually first. Since they already gave the actual second place team the champion tee shirts and banner, to save face they officially declared it a tie, so our girls never experienced the leader lounge or the excitement of winning and received their tee shirts the next day at practice. Again this year there were questions about the scoring, not sure if we will be going next year.
